How do Crystals "work"?

I'm always curious to hear how someone like Kilik would explain it. Again, no links please.

How does a crystaline mineral formation, simply by virtue of its presence alone, affect your physical well being?

Kilik, I hand the floor over to you.

Okay, I'm not Kilik but...

Crystals let light pass through. If you hold one up you can see through it to some degree. If you hold a red crystal up to a white light, you see red so the crystal must filter out the other colors and just let the red light through. This is just an example, mind you. Another example is that a clear crystal distorts the light. I can hold one up to my eye and everything I see is jagged, distorted. And so on.

Now, if Crystals can do all this with light, why not with other energies? Your body contains energy and if you move a crystal around you it will "filter out" the bad energies and let the good ones pass through, like the red filter in the example above. So, you are left with all good energy so you must feel better and lead a better life. It may take several different crystals to filter all the different kinds of bad energy and some other crystals to re-align and rejuvinate the good energy.

When I get my big $10 bag of crystals that's what I'm going to tell people so I can sell them at a huge markup and make millions. And I didn't even get into Chakras and vibrations and such.

It's very simple. You buy them wholesale for a very small amount of money. Then you convince the marks that they have magical healing powers and sell them the crystals for a large amount of money.

Thanks, I'm gearing up to become a famous psychic. I've got a lot of the techniques down, I just have to work on my charisma.

Connecting Earth's ley lines to Her mental aura energy grid is a series of giant tuning crystals, some of them not clear quartz but other gemstones... These crystals have been dormant or nearly so for thousands of years. They were deactivated at the time that human DNA was wilfully unplugged in a war between other-planetary forces over control of the developing Earth. The result was the reducing of human information and energy from a twelve-paired double helix to our current two-stranded one... As the crystals and gemstones are opening and healing, their expanded frequencies also heal people by opening, tuning, and programming human auras.
Now you know.

Amazingly, there are tons of books out there about WHICH crystal is best for which situation. I've run into people who have it all memorized, and will look at some of my jewelry pieces and comment on how "wise" I am for putting certain things together. Sigh. I put them together because I find the combination pleasing, and it will "cure" the buyer of the purchase price.

However, the mechanism for how it is supposed to work is curiously lacking.

You can go into any good New Age store and find endless amusement reading these books. (At least, I can.) I know this is not what you wanted - another LINK - - but this one is a great example of what I am talking about, and it is specifically for MEN: crystals for men. Notice that her "explanation" for how it "works" is not much of an explanation.

Curiously, all such books seem to be arranged and indexed by the name of the crystal, instead of by the conditions they supposedly treat. This is stupid, and must be especially frustrating if it turns out that the best remedy for your condition is zircon.

Oh... please don't encourage cart before horse. First let's hear exactly what they're supposed to do and see whether they actually DO that, THEN we can worry about how.

Piezoelectricity. Well known but hard to pronounce fact, see?
If you stroke a crystal it gives off natural energy that heals what ails you.
And vibrations.
I have my PC hooked to a dynamo powered by a quartz crystal under my chair. I plank my big fat bum on it and presto! Internet access.
I have to watch my weight or it starts emitting x-rays. Fried my video card.

I don't know if I would call that "stupid". The deal is, they don't agree WHICH crystal treats WHICH condition! So for example if you are really angry (because the books are arranged and indexed according to the name of the crystal) you might be directed to use howlite, amethyst, emerald, green jade or rose quartz - etc. etc. So you see, I would not call that "stupid". I would call it "assinine" or "completely ludicrous". :D

Also, not all of these minerals actually form crystals. (Details, details.) Green jade, for example, is acually a word that describes 2 different minerals, neither of which form large crystals. (Both jadeite and nephrite are made up of tiny interlocking crystals, although jadeite CAN form very small individual crystals.) Obsidian (which is a "healing crystal" on some lists) does not form crystals. It is a volcanic glass, caused when lava hits water.

Teensy quibble. Obsidian is indeed a volcanic glass, the name is used for a range of ultrafine grained Rhyolites or Trachytes. These are cool magmas and tend to contain water which forms a significant part of the glassy rock once cooled. It doesn't actually have to hit liquid water, though of course it could.

logical muse: Start a site selling homepathic magnet treatment.
Use the money to buy jewels for your wifie.
Then it really can cost thousands.

Easier than stealing candy from children.

And oh how i wish it wasn't so :(

Sincerely
Tobias.
