The following article is in danish:

http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2007/06/12/173650.htm?rss=true

A summary:
A Danish adoption agency, AC Børnehjælp, have been paying/bribing for children from India to be adopted by Danes, going against every convention and rule in the area.

I'm not sure what irks me the most: The fact that this happens in Denmark or if it's the fact that I actually am waiting for the answer to a whether or not I'm getting the job as a web editor for these idiots.

One wonders if there isn't some kind of strong-arming of women in 3rd world countries, or even former Eastern Block countries. When they (and government officials) can pull in 5 and even 6 figures of cold, hard, Western cash for "adoption fees", there's a severe market to "convince" poor single moms to cough up a baby. And you know the mom gets only a small fraction of that, even if she wanted to be a baby factory.

There is. Not necessarily as obvious as to pay women to produce babies assembly-line like, though, but more on the line of playing on their guilt about not being able to give children the same chances they would be having being adopted in the West. Note that the same kind of pressure applies to the poors in more developped countries, or on pregnant teenagers who consider abortion ...

You must be one of those leftist liberal pinko socialist Christian communist Marxist atheist libertarian humanist Democrats whining about the glories of the free market.

Dr A, I think you had one too many terms in that line. The bolded ones don't whinge about the free market, they worship it.

Yeah, I know what I can do with my blue pencil, you need not post that part of the reply.

"Who you callin' scruffy-lookin'?"

Actually, I hadn't thought about it, but I probably would support women (in a free and open way) producing babies for money for adoption. And, in a free world, they'd get like 95% of the money, since you wouldn't need backroom deals, nor would government officials be able to "stand in the way" until $30k was kicked up "for administrative fees", etc.

That's quite a modest proposal.

The plot thickens: There is now the very real possibility that some of the "bought" children are actually adopted away without permission from their biological parents. There's even some talk about outright kidnapping.

Apparently the payment arrangement were part of "securing" 3-5 children for adoption a year.

AC Børnehjælp denies any involvement or wrongdoing on their end. Too bad that DR (Short for Denmarks Radio and Television Broadcast, the oldest of our two national broadcasters, TV2 being the second) somehow got their paws on an internal email pointing towards something else.
Danish government have put a hold on adoptions for now, but does not intend to try and figure out if the kids already here have been removed illegally from their homes.........Politicians......

Well, you can always use really faulty html.

Bring down the system from the inside!

Tempting. Very, very tempting.

They sure could use one.

Man, that's a crappy website.

Agreed......I'm going to talk to my union rep Friday on whether or not screaming "NO!" loudly into the phone, possibly followed by the use of a dogwhistle, if they contact me for an interview, or hires me outright, is going to cost me a penalty of some sort. I can't see myself working for someone doing something so utterly against my convictions.
