Back when HC's feedback addy was posted here I sent off a note regarding thier intent to broadcast "Loose Change".

They got back to me today:

Thankyou for your feedback.
Like all television networks The History Channel broadcasts conspiracy theory programming from series like 'The Men Who Killed Kennedy' to programmes like 'Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land On The Moon? and the BBC series 'The Power of Nightmares' all of which present controversial theories relating to history.

Whilst no single representation of History is truely accurate the viewer needs to be given the opportunity to view all arguements in order to be able to begin to create their own opinion even if this serves to debunk a theory presented.

The majority of our 9/11 programming actually focused on the heroic actions of all involved in the events of September 11 2001.

I wonder how many astronomers and astrophysicists they consulted before determining the account of the Apollo Landings was not "truly accurate"?

There is something seriously wrong with someone who lacks the moral courage to call obvious bulls___ for what it is.

Hmm. What does Armstrong think about all the arguments? Surely if they're going to show the moon hoax CTs then I am positive in their "fairness" they actually consulted NASA or any of the astronauts that went to the moon?

Somehow I doubt it. I used to like the History Channel alot. now it shows crap.

Do they show other documentaries denying the Hollocaust? Or doco's that accuse other heads of state of being mass murderers?

was that a cut 'n paste from their email response? did they get an intern to compose it or did they even proof-read it?

i love how they use the argument "well, like other stations, we broadcast intellectually dishonest crap" without using exactly those words...the problem is, a lot of these shows are dishonest- they present info that has been debunked without showing the debunking, thus leading the viewer to believe the arguments presented disproportionally. i have seen examples of them even having authorities who i know (based on their writings elsewhere) would disagree with whatever garbage they are "investigating" but they give them no real facetime and keep their comments short and surprisingly uncritical...and as randi has documented from his experiences, they often edit out the most powerful arguments against something. i am not for censorship, but it certainly affects my loyalty to a station when they blatantly mislead people in order to present something that will excite a larger audience, pandering to the woos.

Yes, that is the entirety of HC's response. Cut and pasted verbatim.

Unfortunately, HC is a business. Thier first pourpose is to make money. Factual accuracy takes a bact seat to shock value if it boosts the ratings and advertising revenues higher.

A couple weeks ago A&E had a 2 hour documentary on the effect of breasts on western culture and how said culture affected how we view breasts.

As far as I could tell, the information was presented accurately and honestly, but hey... BOOBS!!!

It's ALL about the ratings.

eh, history channel in USA has broadcast some moon landing hoax specials, they usually make it clear at every station ID that they think its a load of crap (the conspiracy theories that is)
