It turns out Clinton may have backed a coup against a democratically elected, vaguely Commie leader in the dark, Cold era of... 2009.

The chapter on Latin America, particularly the section on Honduras, a major source of the child migrants currently pouring into the United States, has gone largely unnoticed. In letters to Clinton and her successor, John Kerry, more than 100 members of Congress have repeatedly warned about the deteriorating security situation in Honduras, especially since the 2009 military coup that ousted the country’s democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya. As Honduran scholar Dana Frank points out in Foreign Affairs, the U.S.-backed post-coup government “rewarded coup loyalists with top ministries,” opening the door for further “violence and anarchy.”

The homicide rate in Honduras, already the highest in the world, increased by 50 percent from 2008 to 2011; political repression, the murder of opposition political candidates, peasant organizers and LGBT activists increased and continue to this day. Femicides skyrocketed. The violence and insecurity were exacerbated by a generalized institutional collapse. Drug-related violence has worsened amid allegations of rampant corruption in Honduras’ police and government. While the gangs are responsible for much of the violence, Honduran security forces have engaged in a wave of killings and other human rights crimes with impunity.

Despite this, however, both under Clinton and Kerry, the State Department’s response to the violence and military and police impunity has largely been silence, along with continued U.S. aid to Honduran security forces. In “Hard Choices,” Clinton describes her role in the aftermath of the coup that brought about this dire situation. Her firsthand account is significant both for the confession of an important truth and for a crucial false testimony.

Many commentators have mentioned that Hillary Clinton left behind no major achievement as the U.S. Secretary of State, but that isn't true: the reality is that she did, several - and all of them are harms to the U.S., especially regarding two countries. They are Honduras and Afghanistan.

The central-American nation of Honduras is now ruled by an extremist far-right government today, a fascist junta-imposed government, because of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The lives of all but the top 0.001% of the population there are hell because of this. Those people now have good reason to hate America. The reputation of the United States has gone down under President Obama, throughout almost all countries, and this hell in Central America is a significant part of the reason for that, but the U.S. news media have paid pathetically little attention to this U.S.-caused hell there, and so most Americans don't even know about it.

The second source you link to, Erik Zuesse, is not vaguely credible. (I haven't checked out the first.) His wall-of-text commentary is incoherent and obviously manipulative. (Here is similar wall-of-text from Zuesse where he claims the US is planning to nuke Russia.)

I'm not a Hillary Clinton fan by any means, but I hate to read hyperbole and nonsense in opinion pieces.

The lives of all but the top 0.001% of the population there are hell because of this.

  • The population of Honduras is 8 million.
  • .001% of 8 million is 80.
  • Therefore, there are only 80 people in Honduras for whom life is not "hell."

I suspect that there are thousands or millions of Hondurans who would disagree. I have only been there once, but life did not look like hell for the folks I saw.

Also, Erik Zuesse is a Putin apologist -- one of those sorta lefties who apologize for fascist dictators. Not a credible source.

Opinion of the United States

During Bush's War on Terra™, you can see world opinion of America plummet. The numbers are higher during Obama's regime.

Pay particular attention to the differences in the numbers between 2008's poll and 2009's poll. The world was HUGELY relieved to see Bush go.

The opinions of our closest allies are higher today than at any time during Bush after 9/11. Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Israel. All higher opinions of America under Obama than under Bush post-9/11.

Clinton is going to capitalize on that.

How is a Presidential candidate going to "capitalize" on opinion polls amongst our allies? They won't be voting next November.

While serving as Secretary of State, the esteem of America on the world stage increased. How this will help Hillary as she seeks a job in which foreign policy is a key component escapes you?

How will the "esteem" of America in other countries affect elections in this country? Seriously.
