High School Stabbings

We will have to make knives illegal immediately. There are far too many knives available on the streets.

We already know that bans and prohibitions do not deter those with criminal intent. Please let's try to avoid underscoring self evident fact.

It will only bring accusations of 'scoring-points' again...

That road has already been paved:

Switchblade knives were the "assault weapon" of their day, and like most laws restricting possession of (whatever) they haven't exactly been effective:

Let me apply for my million real quick...

The offender was marginalized and victimized by his peers.

The offender took special interest in media reports of other cases of incidents of mass revenge killings.

The offender went through a methodical planning phase in the weeks or months prior to the offense.

The offender communicated a desire to victimize his perceived tormenters.

Asking why at this point seems to me to be fairly redundant and counter-productive. I think one personal solution is to talk to your children about their treatment by peers, talk about how it affects their self-image, look for some of the warning signs and most importantly to act on them.

Parents also need to act when it becomes apparent that their child is victimizing or marginalizing his or her peers.

Incidents of school violence generally are mental health issues with a criminal component instead of crimes with a mental health component.

I bet he played violent video games!

...just like every other boy his age.

Wow. This story is so major that it distracted CNN from covering the fact that they still haven't found the damn plane.

Effective!?!

I'd say such laws have been extremely effective at keeping innocent victims defenceless!

You do know BTW that ownership of anything more than two knives is politically incorrect and it is considered to be an "arsenal"...

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a knife is a good guy with a knife.

Oh, wait...

So we will have to see if the athorities can find out what motivated this person to do this. I wonder if it had anything to do with all these tv shows showing stabbings?

Could he have been watching too many shows with knife attacks and killing featured in their storylines?

These shows have knives used recently in the stories. Just an observation of mine.
Are you being serious?

Yes they have, for all intents and purposes. Unless you think the signal from something at 15,000 feet down in the vicinity the calculations predicted the plane would be are coming from a new species of ocean life.

Like others here, I don't know what happened, but I do know that it confirms my views on weapons.

This wouldn't have happened if the School was not a Knife Free Zone. The clear solution is to arm all teachers with knives to prevent this occurring again. (or perhaps swimming pools.)

Mine too. I think this is terrible, and the best solution is to figure out what causes people to do this and stop it at the roots, but I would venture that every victim of this attack would agree that they were better off having been stabbed than shot. One shudders to consider what the carnage of this event would have been had he had those 30 minutes access to his victims with a gun rather then a knife.
