Hey Kids! Check this out!!!!

DNA samples in a lab are replicated into millions of copies before being analyzed. How does the kit get around this problem, or does it just fake it?

I think the extraction part is simulated with the samples already at suffucient levels. Or perhaps they use some sort of simulated DNA.

They supply some dishwashing soap. It is possible to extract the DNA strands from some plants using dishwashing soap to destroy the cell walls and the nucleus membrane, and thus get the DNA strands (not that pure in any way though). But you wont be able to see anything in the microscope, not the helix anyway.

Hmm, what’s the isopropyl alcohol for? A solvent maybe!

But I think you could do some electrophoreses with the supplied “stains”, which probably is synthesized DNA strands in enough concentration to do electrophoreses.

Oh yeah. I read over the promo again, and it does say it has an electrophoresis chamber and you can send out for DNA samples. It looks pretty good. I might get it for my wife - she's a forensic science fan.

Last spring at the elementary school science fair, a couple of kids had this for their project. The story was that an indulgent uncle gave it to one of the kids for her birthday.

My daughter was content with her owl pellets for her display on owls.
