Recently I have heard people talking about making Altered Books. Initially I thought they were speaking of making books of witchcraft or something like that lol. Anyway here is a link as to what altered books look like :

http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/alteredbook.html

I find some of them to be very provocative but I am somewhat bothered by the idea of using books as opposed to say blank page journals. There is no standard by which these books are made and it appears to only be a hobby at this time as opposed to a recognized form of art.

Sure as heck looks like art to me. It combines a few different disciplines and mediums, most obviously collage. I think using actual books adds meaning. For instance the particular book used is, I'm confident, not random or incidental.

Cool site! I like it.

The more I check into this the more interested I become. Some of the Altered Books I've seen outside of the ones from the link I posted are amazing. One person talked about how they gained their inspiration by reading the individual page prior to creation. I have to admit that I am beginning to get the itch to make one myself. :D

It is clear to me now that the only reason for using books is to incorporate the text in to the piece.

Where have you seen others? I have never seen anything like this before.

For the most part when I first heard people speaking about it I did a Google search and found several sites about it but look at this :

A growing interest group for anyone interested in Altered Books.
