One of the problems about working from home is that it gives you plenty of time to listen to the radio. This morning on the BBC Radio 5 station there was an interview with Dr. Rosy Daniel who claims to have a herbal cure for cancer (which appraently corrects the body's pH). Dr Daniel used to be in charge of assessing treatments and has come to the conclusion that this definitely works even though there has been no clinical trials. Her claim is that big pharma will not do the trials and no-one else is interested.

The rebuttal was provided by a doctor who basically said "Yes, these are interesting anecdotes, the next step is to do a clinical trial".

Dr Daniel says "there are people out there who need help now - not when the trials have been conducted".

Here's a link to a Grauniad article which provides a little background http://www.guardian.co.uk/health/story/0,3605,1309126,00.html

I liked the way the BBC handled it. The rebuttal was coherent and didn't come across to much as bashing the alternative treatments.

Hmm.... lets see.....
£90 per month, say about 6 months on average......
x 860 patients =$$$$ (£464 400!)

Dont let Kumar see this bit:
Taking Carctol - and drinking lots of water, changing your diet and taking a digestive enzyme, all as recommended by Dr Tiwari - makes that acid level more alkaline and stops the cancer from thriving.

"It's complete scientific nonsense," says Souhami. "The body can't be made more acid or alkaline. Acidity is very tightly controlled.

The web site claims:
http://www.anticancerherb.com/

Today CARCTOL is a herbal compound containing only rare, natural and indigenous Indian Herbs mixed together with proportional strength to treat and heal all types of Cancer.

This Herbal Cancer Treatment, CARCTOL is distinguished from other conventional anti-cancer drugs for the fact that it does not cause any side effects, has ZERO Toxicity and is backed by Pharmacological data. Besides healing Cancer, it also neutralises toxicity produced by chemotherapeutic agents.

CARCTOL Treats CA-Cervix, Ca Esophagus, Leukaemia Myoblastic and Lymphoblastic and other Cancers of Soft Tissues.

However the disclaimer reads:
We do not claim to cure, prevent or treat any disease.

Perhaps they subscribe to the rouser school of medicine - "cancer is a pseudo-disease, so we are not lying!"

I'm having the worst time trying to dig up Daniel's credentials. Does she have a PhD in SCAM or what? Did she go to med school? How did she get to be in her former position at this cancer institute? What kind of institute is it? Do they actually successfully treat any cancer patients?

Dr Daniel is a former medical director of the Bristol Cancer Help Centre

Hmmm, no job, looking for a way to make money is she??

five of the eight herbal ingredients in Carctol are classed as medicines in the United Kingdom, the preparation cannot be advertised.

So, how is this a herbal remedy then??

 :book: :con2:
