Some things are beyond weird.
On April 25th 2007, a female police officer was killed and another officer wounded severely near Heilbronn, Germany. DNA traces found at the crime scene matched those of an unknown person, female, whose DNA had been found at several other crime scenes since 1993, with the crimes ranging from homicide to burglary and without a common pattern, and on objects like the inside of a car radio's panel.
In the end, the reward was in the 300.000 Euros range:

The common link between all these cases, as it now seems to be almost solved?
The cotton swabs that were part of the forensics kits were supplied by the same company. No trace was ever found in neighboring counties that bought from other suppliers...
Common sense suggests that the swabs were contaminated as they were packaged into their plastic tubes. Possibly by accident.
Ouch.
