I wonder, if now were the man's time to shine...

As many have said, in one way or another, the "I have a dream" speech was masterfully poignant. He could draw you in with personal charisma, even on old tape of an event. He could make you feel something when he spoke: the man knew a dramatic pause, cadence, delivery. That speech would kill if he'd been admonishing people to use proper postage when mailing.
That the content of it was poetic and stirring makes it all the more powerful. He starts calmly enough but his emotion gathers like a tide...

Anyways, if he were a man of this day, what would be different? Because the man knew how to play an audience too. Would he be more or less religious, and that question isn't as silly as it might seem for a Reverend...?
Would he be more political? Would he be president? He'd most likely not get assassinated today... right? Are we advanced enough?
Without the Civil Rights movement as a driving force, what would be his Cause? Would he be rudderless, a captain with no ship?

Would he be a flash in the pan?

Anyways, if he were a man of this day, what would be different?
If the Beatles were a band of this day, what would be different? Would "I Want to Hold Your Hand" be a hit?

Could Lenny Bruce still get laughs by asking, "What would a chair look like if your legs bent the other way?"

You can drive yourself nuts thinking about this kind of stuff.

The tabloids would be writing sensationalistic stories about MLK's private life and he would soon become a charismatic church preacher on Sunday morning TV.
