There is a reputed haunted house in Conyers where I live. On halloween tours people are taken on tours through the turn of the century building.

I know a woman who used ot moonlight there when the house was used as a restaurant had a panic attac when she saw the "ghost". She is not alone as many other people have claimed to see a spook.

Ok I of course don't believe in ghosts. I believe in her case she was overworked and she saw something that wasn't there. stress will do this to some people. Other witnesses may be lying.

Perhaps its proximity to the railroad contributes to some of the things heard at this house.

Thoughts.

I have been there several times and I've never seen anything.

Were there such things as hauntings they would be evident on every battlefield throughout the world.

At first I was a quite skeptical, but there seem to be a number of people claiming to have captured paranormal type entities on camera. Cainkane, if possible maybe the next time you find your self in the area you could bring along a camera? Maybe take a good number of shots in multiple directions, just to see if anything shows up? If you have a camera which can take HD quality photos (preferable although not a must), flash (for low light), capable of picking up Ultra Violet light (not exactly sure which spectrum would work best, but may be worth experimenting), image stabilizer (or auto steady), auto shoot, and a sizable amount of memory, in order to capture as many high quality shots as possible without having to waste time pointing and shooting.

This may sound like a strange request but it just strikes me as something to be explored. In fact if I had the opportunity and equipment I would do it myself.

Here are a few of the available examples where people have claimed to have captured some strange things (or possible entities) on film with the following devices, although I am unable to verify an of these accounts as being authentic, in my opinion they appear to be worth looking into. Andy Coppock using a UV camera (custom built) was able to pick up the following: link. Investigators who looked into the Doris Bither case, using a Polaroid camera captured the following: link.

In the case of Latoya Ammons and her family, police officers from the Gary Police Department in Indian claim to have photographed strange "figures and faces" using just an iPhone:

"That officer also took photos of the house. In one photo of the basement stairs, there was a cloudy white image in the upper right-hand corner. When an officer enlarged the photo, that cloud appeared to resemble a face, Lake County police records state. The enlargement also revealed a second, green image that police say looked like a female."

"Austin said photos he snapped with his iPhone also seemed to have strange silhouettes in them."

Although the officers were unable to retrieve said photos... "Those pictures, taken on his iPhone, subsequently disappeared he said, and the phone which he used that day never behaved the same again."

"But before those images disappeared, he said, he saw that they contained figures he had not seen before; figures he said were not there before, standing around him and beneath the stairs."

*This request is not just for Cainkane either, if anyone is else is in a position to explore the legitimacy of these claims, and also willing to share any notable findings, then please do. No post shoot photo editing, Photoshop, etc. Honesty and integrity are no doubt key.

[*Based on the claims made by Andy Coppock,
cameras capable of picking up wavelengths between
100-400nm would no doubt be preferred]

How convenient.

That would depend on the factors involved. I don't believe in ghosts, but if they were real, there could be a thousand different things that determined who became ghosts.

After the restaurant closed the house was locked up. Occassionally I see lights on in the building but apparently thats just for maintenance. There have been local paranormal investigators there but what they have to say about their visit is unknown to me.

As an aside the house was for awhile and once human remains were found under the building in the crawl space.

The house is large with two stories but it lacks a sinister appearance so we're not talking about "The Haunting of Hill House" here. People describe the ghosts as a man wearing a top hat or a shadow like figure.

When the house was a restaurant I ate there several times and I personally saw nothing whatsoever and when it state office building in 1973 I inventoried the whole building upstairs and down and saw nothing paranormal.

Journalistic malfeasance re: "The exorcisms of Latoya Ammons?"

I question the integrity of Marisa Kwiatkowski's reporting regarding Latoya Ammons. It is my opinion Marisa is guilty of journalistic malfeasance by publishing cherry-picked information, and withholding the majority of the "...nearly 800 pages of official records by the Indianapolis Star and recounted in more than a dozen interviews with police, DCS personnel, psychologists, family members and a Catholic priest.”

I spoke with IndyStar reporter Marisa Kwiatkowski on Friday, February 7th, 2014 and asked if the nearly 800 pages of documents were available online. Marisa said, "No." I'd need a signed waiver of confidentiality from Latoya Ammons. A lot of the records involve confidential records.

I asked if there was a way to get copies of all the records- Marisa couldn't do that. She took my name and contact information and passed it on to Latoya Ammons. I never heard from Latoya so I guess the general public will never see the entire set of documents. Without the raw documents, how can someone make an informed decision/opinion of the Latoya Ammons's situation?

I believe Clinical Psychologist Stacy Wright (evaluated Latoya's youngest son) quote in the article best sums up the situation:
"This appears to be an unfortunate and sad case of a child who has been induced into a delusional system perpetuated by his mother and potentially reinforced" by other relatives, she wrote in her psychological evaluation.

My effort to talk with Stacy Wright about the situation failed, as had my effort to talk with
Clinical psychologist Joel Schwartz, who evaluated Ammons' daughter and older son, came to a similar conclusion.
They won't/can't talk because they'd be in violation of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA), and talking might potentially open them to other lawsuits.

What a shame we only have Marisa Kwiatkowski's lopsided and biased article. To me, I come away with the notion that Latoya Ammons's situation may at least be a Folie à deuxWP, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a case of Münchausen syndrome by proxyWP

I believe Marisa Kwiatkowski, Investigative Reporter at The Indianapolis Star, intentionally withheld the bulk of the Latoya Ammons documents, because if those documents were to be public, that may tell once and for all if the Latoya Ammons's demon-haunted story was knowingly biased and fabricated.

Marisa Kwiatkowski declined my request for an interview.

Off topic, but on the subject of haunted battlefields...
Several years ago, I was listening to Coast-to-Coast AM for a laugh while driving home from a friend's house. It was one of the substitute hosts, I think.
Someone called in who was apparently pranking the show. He started talking about stories he had heard about a Norwegian mercenary who had been murdered by the CIA in the 60s and whose ghost had then been seen at sites of conflict around the world ever since.
The host took it completely seriously and admitted that it sounded familiar and he thought he had heard the stories too.
I was laughing my head off in my car. Sure he had heard the story; it was "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner", by Warren Zevon.

More on topic, I'm prone to hypnagogic hallucinations when I'm overly tired, both fragmentary waking dreams and auditory hallucinations. It can be quite interesting to hear the random background noise gradually resolve itself into indistinct muttering voices*.
Someone unfamiliar with the phenomenon could easily mistake it for ghosts. It's obviously the cause of "waking in the middle of the night and seeing a dead loved one's ghost at the foot of the bed" experiences, not to mention late night alien abductions from bed that end with the abductee returned as if nothing happened.

*I'm just glad I've never received a psychological evaluation in which they ask "Do you ever hear voices?".

That would depend on the factors involved. I don't believe in ghosts, but if they were real, there could be a thousand different things that determined who became ghosts.

What ?
All those young men dying in horrendous ways on a thousand battlefields over a hundred thousand years and none have become ghosts haunting the site of their death ?
Yet some-one falls down stairs and dies becomes a ghost ?
I have this bridge for sale

My aunt and uncle moved to Conyers during the Marian visions nonsense. For a while their SUV sported a bumper sticker: "Conyers! Eat, drink, and see Mary."

ETA- That place that has, or had, all the awnings? On Elm Street and Railroad iirc. I've been to the Whistle Post (wasn't overwhelmed btw) but never ate in the restaurant. Next time I'm down there I'll drive over just to take a quick look--hadn't heard the ghost stories before. Thanks!

I went thru that era too. Mary Fowler made a mint on the virgin I can tell you that.

Incidentally I too can't stand The Whistlepost Tavern. Mediocre food, poor service and I can't stand the owners. There are two other bars nearby which are much better.

The other bars and restaurants are called Celtic Tavern and the other is called The Pointe.

Since this is the JREF forum, my thoughts are: if someone can prove there's a ghost there, they should be eligible for the Million Dollar Challenge. Otherwise, it's not worth wasting my time on. Since the MDC remains unclaimed, I will assume there's no ghost there.

No ones going to make any money off of the spooks in this house but that will not stop people frim believing in them and someone else will claim they saw one.

At first I was a quite skeptical, but there seem to be a number of people claiming to have captured paranormal type entities on camera.

Such claims constantly abound, yet not one person has presented verifiable evidence that their ghostly images are authentic.

Anecdotal evidence is not evidence.

When someone claims to have ghostly pictures, but cannot produce any of them (what happened to the alleged enlargement?) while blaming ghostly chicanery, honesty and integrity are not the words which come to mind...although you seem to be easily taken in by those claiming to have both those attributes.

I'm truly curious how a ghost can make equipment malfunction. We've heard that excuse before. Is Heaven one big training center to learn how to screw with iPhones, cameras, video cameras, etc?
