Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I enjoy the books a lot. They may not be great literature in the classic sense, but they are internally consistent, well-plotted, and fun.

I am, however, only a moderate fan. My family are rabid fans and listen/re-listen to the audiobooks, so I've heard it a lot.

Following are my unsolicited predictions for the final book, some of which are mine, most of which are my family's.

1. Snape isn’t evil. He killed Dumbledore at Dumbledore’s request

because

2. Dumbledore has a horcrux; to create it he had to kill someone; that someone was the Dark Wizard Grimbold (?) or somesuch (can’t recall exactly) which was mentioned on his Chocolate Frog card.

3. The horcrux is Fawkes

4. Hagrid is caring for Fawkes but doesn’t know it’s a horcrux

5. The one who took Voldemort’s horcrux (the locket) that was already gone when Dumbledore and Harry tried to find it is Regulus Black, Sirius’ brother, but Regulus is dead now.

6. That horcrux is either in a pile of items stolen by Kreacher at 12 Grimauld Place OR it is in the unwitting possession of Mundungus.

7. Lupin will defeat Grayback in a titanic struggle beginning as humans and ending as werewolves but he will need Tonks’ help to do it.

8. Arthur Weasley will end up as the Minister of Magic

9. Draco Malfoy will not remain a follower of Voldemort and will become the Snape of his generation

10. Dumbledore’s brother, Aberforth, is the proprietor of the Hog’s Head Inn.

11. Percy Weasley will die heroically.

12. The reason Dumbledore knew he could trust Snape is that Snape hates Voldemort for killing Lilly Potter. Snape loved Lilly and Voldemort had agreed Snape could have her after he (Voldemort) killed James and Harry. Voldemort broke his word; Snape hates him.

13. Neville will live doing something heroic and crucial to Harry’s victory. Luna, however, might die. Can’t decide. If she doesn’t die, she and Neville will hook up.

14. Cruikshanks is a shape-shifting wizard like Scabbers was, but—unlike Scabbers—is a good wizard. Possibly Aberforth, but I don’t think so. Maybe Mundungus.

15. The Invisibility Cloak will play another important role, even if indirectly. Why did Dumbledore have Harry’s cloak when he doesn’t need one to turn invisible?

16. Harry’s act of mercy in The Prisoner of Azkaban (when he refused to let Sirius kill Peter Pettigrew) will come into play when Pettigrew repays his debt in some manner, even if small.

17. Something important is at Godric’s Hollow (where Harry’s parents were killed), either in the form of a horcrux (or two) or information. Why was Godric’s Hollow destroyed?

18. The House Elfs will play a major role in the fight, at the end of which they will have their freedom, though most will remain voluntarily as servants with pay and better conditions—unionized, if you will.

19. Madame Maxime will succeed where Hagrid failed in mobilizing the Giants in support of the good wizards. Grawp will play a minor but dramatic role in the fight.

20. Viktor Krum will help Harry, Hermione and Ron. He may fight and defeat Karkaroff.

21. Look for the return of Witherwings/Buckbeak.

My mom keeps insisting that Snape is evil. And I keep insisting that Snape and Dumbledore had it planned from the beginning. Also, for Snape to be evil, that would mean that Dumbledore is wrong. He has insisted from the beginning that Snape is on their side. I just can't see Dumbledore being that wrong.

Nor can I. It would also mean too many unexplainable red herrings for a children's book, imo, and too many unexplainable instances of Snape saving the good guys' bacon (1st book, Harry on the broom cursed by Quirrel; fifth book, Snape notifying the good guys that Harry and crew were at the Ministry).

At the end of the Goblet of Fire when Dumbledore was giving instructions to people, he said something to Snape along the lines of "Severus, you know what you must do, yes?" I said then that Snape would pretend to be working for Voldemort again.

Done. Should have thought of it. Though Lisa is correct in that these are only guesses.

Brilliant guesses possibly deserving of a million dollars, but guesses nonetheless.

I haven't read the sixth book yet.

You revealed that Snape kills Dumbledore. Thanks.

No, it isn't. I don't live under a rock and I didn't know about it. I just haven't bought it yet.
It was not my intent to spoil your reading of the book and for that I am sorry though I do not apologize.

Given that the thread is about the last book and I prefaced my list with the statement that they are predictions about the last book, you had ample opportunity to stop reading.
