The appointment of Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Col.) as Secretary of the Interior will open up a U.S. Senate seat for the Democratic governor to fill.

Apparently the going rate for a Senate seat these days is $1 million -- should we start passing the hat?

But seriously -- I'm assuming it's unlikely that Hal would be directly appointed to the Senate as his first (?) public office, but if one of Colorado's Representatives is appointed (and I've heard one rumor about Salazar's brother), that might open up a House seat. I'm not sure what Colorado's residency rules are, so I don't know if Hal could take a seat for a district in which he doesn't currently live.

Given his background, I believe Hal is a mid-level Mason trying to break into the inner circle. That's why he kissed Hillary Clinton's extremely large butt when he got the chance.

The outer circle Masons are mostly devout Christians toiling to serve the inner clan. They are very naive tools. Most cults are structured this way.

As a skeptic, Hal probably feels he's had enough of that service. He wants in.
