Poor Ken Ham. The mean, intolerant state of Kentucky is persecuting him by not forking over millions of dollars so he can build his Creationist theme park. Why does the state of Kentucky hate Real Christians? They want to force him to follow non-discriminatory hiring practices if the park is to be funded with taxpayer money, but he says that's a violation of his religious freedom. By the way, you have to be a very specific kind of Christian to qualify. The pope probably wouldn't pass muster as I believe he once expressed mild support for the theory of evolution and an age of the earth older than 6,000 years.

Yeah, well. Y'know. Catholics.

Jokes aside, praise be to state government for being something other than completely stupid for once.

I think he will win under Title VII of the 1964 Civil rights act. He can claim the exception applies because his theme park is of a purpose and character primarily religious, or a religious education facility.

Oddly enough he would be still held to the racial requirements of the bill. A funny old world sometimes

Oh, no, he can probably get away with hiring and firing whomever he wants, so long as the park is entirely privately funded. It's the use of public funds that takes this out of Title VII. He could try to proceed under Title IX, but then he'd have to form a girls' volleyball team.

I think his ace in the hole will be the public tax exemption that such institutions normally enjoy. He will try to argue that tax exemptions are a form of government support, therefore on the same level as a government funded grant

I wish him luck with this losing argument.

I wonder though. Is it promoted as such? It seems he claims it is supposed to be "educational" and "historically-themed" and although he does mention the Bible, he doesn't mention a "religious purpose" for the theme park. He wants to have it both ways. He claims that this isn't merely religious dogma, but historical fact.

You can see the plans here. Funny, but it doesn't appear to me like there is room there for 2 of each species.

It'd be a real knee slapper if we should hear one day that the Ark park is closed for repairs due to uncharacteristic flash flooding thought to be caused by climate change.:D

Ham stated after the flash flood, "Yeah, crikey mate, the ark sustained severe water damage, and all the animals had to be evacuated two by two to the county zoo. I heard that the ark was nearly swept away by the high waters, but thank God it could not float."

I see Mr Ham is impervious to irony.

here I was hoping that Kentucky had seen reason and realized that this park is going to be a money pit. My understanding is that his creation museum has falling revenues.

Even the staunchest most fervid believer finds his spirit quailing after his kids whine for the thousandth time "Why are we gong there again".

Often I wonder if not more anti-Creationists visit it than anything else
