The First Edition monthly parts of David Copperfield are being reprinted, complete with all the illustrations, advertisements and inserts that swelled the green paper covers of the originals.
They have been reproduced in exacting detail, and every effort has been made to capture the look and feel of the originals. Printed by the same letterpress methods used in Dickens's time, and on paper specially made for this purpose, each page is an exact reproduction made from digitally enhanced scans of the first edition
They are publishing in 20 monthly parts, with part 19 also including part 20, just as in the original 1849/1850 schedule - the only difference being that the reprints start in December and finish in June '05, instead of May-November for the original.
Pricey though - part 1 is £19.90, and each other part is £9.95.
Still, I'd really love to have a copy of this myself. Anyone want to buy it for me? (It's available from Durrant Editions if you're really interested - only 2,500 copies will ever be published, so hurry).
Failing that, what other great literature presents are out there this year?
