Naturalhealth decided to post a case I concocted as a homoeopathic challenge, over at H'pathy. The reaction was beyond my wildest dreams. However, I couldn't resist going in there myself and dropping the other shoe, as it were. The thread is therefore sure to be deleted soon, so do go read it while it's hot.

A Case from Rolfe who needs help?

Also, though I've no idea who originally started the thread on diarrhoea in a group of calves, Naturalhealth's response was so stunningly brain-dead that I just had to go in there and draw them a picture on that too.

7 week old young cows dying

I expect "Rolfie" to be banned from H'pathy before morning, and these posts deleted - probably the entire threads. So now's your chance.

(But don't worry, as soon as they delete them, I'll put them up elsewhere myself and post links to them again, so the tardy among you won't be denied the amusement.)

I feel a sense of 'closure'. In two neat moves you've given us a pair of simple pieces of evidence that can be used anytime we want to show them up as criminal incompetents.

I think we can assume those threads will suffer Stalin's airbrush and once that has happened it would be good to post them here in their entirety so we can link to them as one-link universal rebuttals to the homeopaths. Shame they haven't managed to come up with their FAQ to answer sceptical questions or we could use that against them as well.

In the event the Cold War having become "hot" the average life expectancy of a British frontline pilot was calculated to be 6 hours, I suspect Rolfie's confrontation with Stalin's friends at Hpathy will result in a briefer existence than that.

What with reaching the point of final ultimatums with Kumar, I may just have to start interacting with my family again.

It was stunningly easy to re-register there. I hesitated a bit before taking such an obvious username as "Rolfie" (someone else took "Rolfe" some weeks ago and got it banned after one post), but then theorised I could always try again with a bit of subterfuge if Rolfie didn't get through the mods.

Guess what. Still no mods checking newbies. Automatic email confirmation of registration within seconds. I had the text all ready just to paste and run, and worked as fast as I could. Paste, submit, reload and "save as". Trembling that "Rolfie" might get the bullet before I'd finished. But no, the threads are still there.

I'm going to bed now. Any Yanks, Canucks or Aussies who get a handle on when the threads (or posts) get deleted, let me know tomorrow.

Is it just me or have they done something at Hpathy that stops browsers from allowing the option to save the page to disc?

It's just you. The pages are still there (I just reloaded the Addison's one) and I've also saved it a couple times more. So maybe you need to reboot your computer or something.

More than an hour, and Stalin's airbrush is still inactive. (I even managed to edit one of the posts for spelling!) Read it while it's hot.

this kind of malpractice would seem criminal to me. Don't these people get charged by the police or sued into bankruptcy.

Have they no shame...I could do a better job than them. I only have a 40 hour course from the Red Cross and If I came across someone in you case study I'd call 911.

btw...my lawyer said there is still a case for fraud if I open my homeo pharmacy.

looks like a need to get a real job.

Well, the only person who commented on the calves was Naturalhealth, and we'd have to prove who she was for a start.

Then, you'd have to prove that the calves actually suffered because someone took that advice. Which was only solicited by "a friend" of the farmer. I think there would be a fair bit of personal liability on the part of anyone mad enough to take such advice.

She's in breach of the Veterinary Surgeons Act of course, but we still don't know who she is, and if the calves weren't in the UK and no harm could be proved, I don't know how seriously the RCVS would take an apparently casual anonymous comment on a bulletin board. On the other hand in her sig she falsely claims to be a qualified doctor, and that wouldn't go down too well with any of the regulatory bodies. If, once more, we knew who she was.

And the Addison's case, that Syed and Snoopy just killed, was of course entirely fictitious, symptoms copied from an online education page. So I can't see them being liable for that.

Of course the whole lot of them ought to be locked up as a danger to society, but try telling Prince Charles that.

The threads are still there...

I like these series of posts from the Addison's Case thread:
You're right, Syed, go with what's obvious. The remedy is, stop the birth control pill!

-- Snoopy
The next day:
In fact, reading over your symptoms, if someone had called me and said, "I have weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness...I'd have thought, 'Oh my God! This is not good! Do you know what's causing this? I think you should get a diagnosis right away!'" You'd have to say this!

-- Snoopy
I'll give Snoopy the benefit of the doubt and assume that her first post is not an demonstration of reckless incompetence, it looks as if she just didnt read the original post (which she apparently did by her second post).

Well can narrow it down to about 30 million people without too much trouble (female UK). Beyond that NH has been pretty cagey about personal info (and If I go any further I'm going to be breaking forum rules).

I think you're being a little over-generous. Snoopy's second post didn't appear until after I'd drawn her a picture and linked to the original page about Addison's disease where the symptoms came from.

Backpedalling like mad now, isn't she!

I notice "senconsult" lists "Belgium" as his/her location, real name "Dominique", born on January 25, 1953 (all of this information from the publicly available user's profile).
Unless it's one of you lot in disguise of course ... :D

I don't know about the law regarding this kind of thing in Belgium, but I could find out ...

I understood that but if they are "practicing" on people they have or someday will kill someone.

You send him over here, we give him a dose of common sense, we don't have to call him prince....

Well, BSM swore blind it wasn't him. And it wasn't me. It's such a funny user name. "Senior Consultant?"

(Belgium? I only know one person in Belgium. No, Exarch, you wouldn't....)

But if it was neither BSM nor me, then I suspect it was just a pure coincidence that the case resembled one from the literature we'd already discussed. And that Naturalhealth jumped in with both feet first.

And "senconsult" wasn't doing anythign illegal, posting that stuff about calves belonging to "a friend". Now, does the VSA prohibit someone in the UK who isn't a vet giving veterinary advice to someone in Belgium? Dunno. Oh, the joys of the Internet.

Sorry guys, I will have to apologise in advance for getting vitriolic with a holier-than-thou Snoopy, and basically calling homeopathy the cr*p medicine it is. Whatever chance the thread may have had to survive is completely gone now :(

But I saved it all up to my last post, so it's on my hard drive.

It's doomed anyway, as soon as JanZy gets there. Think nothing of it. I've saved it too.

She has answered you... but she may have the advantage being several times zones to the west:
http://homeopathyforums.hpathy.com//forum_posts.asp?TID=1716&PN=1&TPN=2

I like this (only part of her post):
"Homeopathy was begun by a medical doctor 200 years ago, it's older than the medicine you practice now. ...snip... Homeopathy similarly postulates that there is an "energy body" which can be affected by "energetic medicine." My hope is that someday you'll be willing to look into this concept; there's really no point in either of us clashing swords any further."

Why would something that began 200 years ago be better than modern medicine? Hasn't science progressed? Personally I am quite pleased at the advances with ultrasound imaging, especially for checking out the functioning of a heart (it is cool to watch, it's in color!).

Also, I think I understand the multi-color big font posting. It reminds me of the girls I knew in junior high who used to write in pastel colored pens and dotted their "i"s with hearts. I corresponded with an old high school friend who tended to use a tiny lavendar font, something I find annoying. I think it is done to distract from lack of substance of the actual words.

Oh, I'm on to her.

By the way, do you like my new sig line? I may keep this one a loooong time....

Rolfe.

Exarch, you're a laugh a minute!
As pointed out by someone else, being older doesn't mean better.

In fact, I'd rather drive a brand new modern Mercedes than an old banged up 1950's VW Beetle without power steering, Anti locking brakes, seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, and the latest all weather tires. I'll admit it's a more expensive car, but it's so much more technologically advanced and, obviously: SAFER!!

But hey, older is better, right?
:dl:

I wish Snoopy would come on here. It's a bit annoying wasting all that on a thread that's going to be deleted by tomorrow. Funny, the barbecue I went to last night was an American Independence Day celebration - an old friend of mine married a lady from Tennessee.

JanZy is probably legless on ultra-dilute alcohol - not! But what's with Snoopy then? Soesn't she have a party to go to?

Rolfe.

Edited to add Exarch's edit.
