They can be seen parachuting into various areas around Baghdad bringing smiles to the faces of Iraqi children.

These airborne “Soldiers” are actually “Teddy Troopers” or “Para-Bears,” stuffed animals with makeshift parachutes jumping into the arms and hearts of children during Operation Teddy Drop.

Take that, America-hating media. There IS good news in the war on terror. Let the thread go where it may.

I guess we should turn a blind eye to all other events and only focus on "American-loving" reports like that, and ignore "America-hating media" like this:

US tried to influence Iraq vote, magazine reports

WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) - The Bush administration proceeded last year over congressional objections with a covert plan to try to influence Iraqi elections in January, the New Yorker magazine reported, citing unnamed current and former officials.

The article, by award-winning journalist Seymour Hersh, said "the methods and the scope of the covert effort have been hard to discern," and the report offered few details.

These activities were kept, in part, "off the books," and were conducted by retired CIA officers and other non-government personnel, and "used funds that were not necessarily appropriated by Congress," Hersh reported.

White House officials, responding to the story, said they were concerned in the run-up to the elections about Iranian influence, but that President George W. Bush decided in the end against carrying out a previously reported plan to provide covert assistance to candidates favored by Washington.

While that's really sweet and probably good for Iraqi/American relations, I'm sorry I'm not all happy smiles. I'll smile when I hear the children catching these bears are safe and have a chance to live in a peaceful country.

Things like this tend to wipe the smiles off my face about Iraq:

Here's my America-hating logic:
Every Iraqi child with a teddy bear < 24 lives

If you want to tell me about good news from Iraq, please let me know when a week goes by without a single U.S. soldier or Iraqi civilian killed by suicide bombers or gunmen. I'll dance in the streets.

unfortunately, the teddy bears are stuffed with bacon.

It's a taste sensation.

Did it come about like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups? "Hey! You got your teddy bear in my bacon!"

In the grand scheme of politics such things don't seem too important, but I do think they lay a foundation. It's good PR, not only for the kids, but also for the adults around them. "Look uncle Achmed, what I got from an American in the sky!:) :) "

My grandmother still tells an endearing story about how her 2 or 3 year old daughter tasted her first chocolate from an American soldier. Small things can leave a lasting impression.

Soooo,

it now takes an American soldiers wearing body armor, helmets, and aircraft to deliver Teddy Bears?

Yep! The whole Iraq situation is just peachy!

:p
