After I got booted as Cainkane1 I went in again as Pigjohn. I didn't last but a week or two this go around. Those folks just can't stand having someone point out the deficiencies in their belief system. I give up. I'M GOING TO HAIL.

Well, it seems it would be as difficult to dissuade someone of their belief system as it would be to get a skeptic to believe in it. It's a two way street. People on this forum who beat their drums and try to persuade others to march to their tune are usually shot down too.

Well, as skeptics, at least we have the ideal of wanting our deficiencies to be pointed out. We might not always act that way, but having that as a goal I think makes us a lot more open-minded than those who dogmatically cling to a faith and refuse to even acknowledge the possibility that a deficiency in it could ever be discovered.

True, but they are allowed to speak their minds and present their ideas. To be banned from JREF forums one has to repeatedly violate the membership agreement or commit a gross act of misconduct. But as long as they behave themselves even the presenters of the most unpopular ideas are welcome to present said ideas without censorship. Banning someone just to silence an idea that is deemed by the moderators of a forum to be offensive strikes me as intellectual cowardice.

We should all work together.

We should all be discussing this together!

When I started viewing this forum 3 months ago I was surprised at how much disagreement there is here...this forum should be advertised as a pursuit to the truth and not an opposing stance to the God forum members : <

There are religious people here too but only those who are willing to throw out their beliefs to the scrutinizing members of our forum. Debate is fun!!!

Why can't these people get the thrill we do about getting to the TRUTH of the matter? Perhaps a better question would be how can we bridge a gap between these two forums so they don't see us as a threat to their beliefs?

But we are a threat to their beliefs.

I mean. What's the point otherwise?

But we're a threat to all our own beliefs...I don't think they understand that instead of us versus them it's all against all.

With this in mind, is a mutual forum environment so difficult to envisage?

I think it's next to impossible. If a non-believer changes his mind, he changes his mind. If a fundie changes his mind, he burns in hell for all eternity. There's no incentive for them to honestly consider alternative ideas, certainly not for anything as ephemeral as "truth."

I think it's worth bearing in mind the purpose of Godtube. The place was not designed to be a free exchange of ideas; it was designed expressly for the purpose of sharing affirmed religious ideas. So logging on and posting anti-religious material and expecting it to remain there is really not fair. It would be like going into a church and heckling the minister in the middle of his sermon, and then being surprised when you're asked to leave.

Yes. I'd like to first get them to concede that there is one truth... and then we could discuss the best ways of finding that truth, I guess. I sometimes ask people if their beliefs were wrong, would they want to know? But for the most part I avoid woo places on the internet... I resent it when they preach here and I'm glad to let them have their woo havens so long as they aren't expecting me to respect their woo.

I wonder what pagans and other inapropraite theists would be treated.

It would be interesting to see how other religious arguments against certain popular religions would be treated.

I'm not going to try to join, because they're really not my kind of people, but I like their "who's online" feature, which (I assume) maps everyone's IP address. It would be neat to see something like that animated, to see the activity move around the world. Right now, on Sunday morning, there's a lot of people in the eastern half of the U.S., and a fair number of early risers on the west coast, not too many in between.

I don't think it would be interesting in the least. I think it would be blearily predictable. Try signing up with a death metal fan forum and posting to explain why jazz is better.

But it is not clearly affiliated with a particular christian sect. Sure turning the T in tube into a cross might be indicitive of their beliefs but it is not explicitly associated with one brand of christianity.

I tried getting in as someone else but they have banned my e-mail address. man those folks just don't want me in there.

Trolls are usually not welcomed on any web forum, so why does it surprise you that you were banned from a forum where you were, for all intent and purposes, trolling?

Ok I got kicked out of Godtube forever this time unless I get another IP number. I was watching a video that was attempting to explain a massacre in the old testament that justified said massacre by saying the people they were exterminating were half demon and half human and the elimination of the men, women and children was justified on account of this.

I countered by saying that that was just an excuse for taking the land away from the people they were exterminating. I also pointed out that since the "demon" female virgins were spared that the demon DNA was passed on to whomever got them pregnant. I was soon kicked out for that and my IP number was banned.

Agree with this. Well, simply stating your mind isn't trolling, of course, but if a site has determined that free thought is against its rules, then you aren't being constructive if you try to impose your views on them.

I say just give it up and move on. GodTube is a haven for people who have shut themselves off from reality and it's probably going to stay that way for a long time.
