OK having a bit of a debate on fb with a guy who posted an anti gmo petition and remembered seeing an infographic someone had put together with quotes from a bunch of scientific institutions saying basically there's no evidence that they cause harm. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has a link, I'd appreciate it, thanks

p.s. yes I know it's an appeal to authority

I don't know your infographic, but it's not an appeal to authority unless the institutions involved are focused on other areas of research.

If I use an Einstein quotation in an argument about physics, then it is likely a totally valid bit of support. He was a renowned physicist and we can assume that he had a clue what he was talking about the majority of the time.

If instead I use an Einstein quotation as support in an argument about the arts, the fact that it comes from Einstein is completely unimportant.

Is this what you're looking for?

Thanks Arthwollipot...

But they must be bad for you if so many countries have either banned them or required labeling of GMOs!

;)

Anytime you see something that begins with "GMOs cause....", you know it's nonsense.

Thanks for this, portlandatheist.

Of course, what does it mean? It means they experimented on us for twenty years to confirm GM foods are safe...

Do you also consider yourself experimented on by all the non-GM food, as it has not been tested to show it is safe, despite often large-scale changes in the composition of foods?

The premarket testing for transgenics is already over burdening to their creators to the extreme. One of the ironies of this is that GMOs created by public universities rarely make it to market and large corporations are better equipped to navigate and absorb the red tape creating an uneven playing field. I can make a GMO using low technology (mutagenic breeding) in my garage and bring it to market without any oversight, without any testing or regulation and can even sell it as organic, it is just when precise and predictable technology with non novel genes are used that is regulated. Even hybridization is a more risky breeding method: http://boingboing.net/2013/03/25/the-case-of-the-poison-potato.html
