Below is a link to a paper by Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski, "chairman of the Scientific Council of the Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection in Warsaw," arguing that we are approaching an Ice Age, and that the global warming threat is chimerical. I have not yet read the paper, but intend to do so soon, and am curious of anyone's response to it who has read it.

The Ice Age is Coming!

A quick glance reveals a dubious selection of sources, newpapers (the Economist, the Washington Post) and vulgar science publications (Science, Scientific American), more than academic journals

There's also some quote mining going on, including Schneider's infamous
To capture the public imagination . . . we have to . . . make simplified dramatic statements, and little mention of any doubts one might have. . . . Each of us has to decide the right balance between being
effective and being honest.

Note the ellipses. Schneider has objected to this distortion over and over again, but it is yet again repeated. I'll read through thew article later, but it sounds more like a hack job than a serious academic paper.

1) It's not a paper; it's an article.
2) It starts out ham-handedly political and economic and remains at least ham-fingeredly so, which is never a good sign.
3) It's in a popular political magazine.
4) It doesn't ever really produce anything strong enough to suggest either the title or the subtitle.
5) The graph in Fig. 3 only goes up to 1975 and appears to overcorrect the Hockey Stick.

Nevertheless, the Hockey Stick does need some correction. The best recently published data that I have been able to find at http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/pubs/moberg2005/moberg2005.html indicated that temperatures around 1000 AD were comparable to temperatures of the period of about 1900 to 1990. Temperatures since 1990 seem to be going up, but note that this wasn't included in the Mann data, which were published in 1996.

The sun is the key part of keeping the earth warm, but it's current state shows no influence of the recorded climate changes in the global climate models. Rises in CO2 do.

I thought it was the declining number if pirates.
