Being that--

-There are issues going on lately that are far more important than who has guns and what they're doing with them,

and

-The issue needlessly divides civil libertarians that would otherwise form a more powerful political force,

is it time for Democrats to let go of this issue? I could more or less stop pushing the issue if it meant more support fighting the erosion of our civil rights...

The point is moot, isn't it? When Dems push gun control, they lose them elections. They've figured it out now. They won't try again for some time, I figure.

Teh gun thing is a bigger deal to the right than the left. Most lefties dont care cause there is alot of gun control already.

Oh, I knew it was coming. :D

In truth, you well know that the gun control has little to do with my issues with libertarian philosophy. So, I won't join, but I'll accept you guys as allies in the civil rights arena...

Fair enough.

Can gun ownership be considered a civil right? Maybe you should consider the fact that many gun control laws do little more than make gun pocession a victimless crime.

For all practical purposes, what makes a gun more sacrosanct than say a car (other than the 2nd amendment of course)?

You got me. :) I own several autos, and several firearms. I never had to worry about going to prison because I failed to fill out the proper forms to legally possess my car. The tax on my car is not quadruple it's real market value like some of the NFA weapons I own.
