GIF's ?

Can anyone please outline for me exactly what it takes to construct a simple animation? Say, a photo of Sylvia Browne's head engulfed in animated flames. I'd really appreciate any help regarding this matter; keep in mind, however, that I'm not especially technologically savvy, nor (and now my machismo is glancing around sheepishly as I type this...) very well-equipped in the software department.

Get a copy of GIMP and check out some tutorials. Remember to get the GIMP help files when you down load it.

The basic process is to make each picture in the animation sequence in a separate layer, then export as a gif. The export function will give you options for how fast to run the animation and whether to repeat, etc.
