Maybe this should also be under the religious forum.

California's school-Bible ballot initiative

A group is trying to get a state constitutional amendment to declare the KJV Bible a 'textbook'. Their arguments are that its creation was a major achievement of the English Renaissance, and has been very influential in English civilization.

Further, the initiatives backers, who maintain a website, say the Bible is worthy of study in "such secular disciplines as history, literature, culture, poetry, law, language, ethics, science and philosophy."

They would have a point here.

The group wants the Bible used in the schools without any "devotional purpose nor any denominational instruction to accept or reject its religious components."
ok, now everyone who believes this please raise your hand. Ah yes, you in the back you believe this claim? oh.. the restroom is down the hall and to the left.

their website

Wonder if I should send these people some articles on the Bible Riots that occured over the attempts of catholics to include bibles other than the KJV used.

Textbook??? I mean even if you are studdying litiriture or history at most you would only need some bible execerps. Why would you really need the entire bible? Why King James?

And how does "science" come into play.

I'm dated as I went to highschool quite some time ago. But i could see a bible in a philosophy or theology class but I never saw those clases available in highschool

Will Californians be equally eager to include the Koran in their schools? I doubt it.

I also have a major problem with picking one version of the bible over another.

Just what our public education system needs.... MORE opportunities to take the focus off teaching Johnny to read & write.

IMO, it's a bad idea.

Couldn't help but to notice all the little white children pictured on their website. I wonder what kind of audience they're trying to reach?

Michael Jackson ?

Me too, especially as there has already been much ado about classes teaching about Islam. Some of the reports seem to indicate the studies might be going a bit far, having students take up Islamic names, practice praying, and that kind of stuff, but I wonder how much of the story was accurately reported.

Just wait until the first teacher tells the class, this is all a fairytale.... or an assignment titled, "Why the Jews wanted Jesus dead.".... the lawsuits will start rolling in.

Parents that want their children to have an education that relies on the New Testament can & should send their children to a RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS.

Our schools are failing at such alarming rates, it's crazy for the govt. to even THINK of adding religion to the mess.

That sounds logical, but these are evangelical Christians. Sending them to a religious school would be preachiong to the choir. Must send them to public schools to save the heathen hordes.

*smacks self*

I keep forgetting that. lol

I swear, these fundies make me as sick as their Muslim counterparts do.... maybe even MORE sick because they live in a free country & yet do not respect freedom.
