This story really pissed me off. I guess the only place you can fly a banner is in the free speech ghetto.

The whole convention kinda disgusts me. The convention is supposed to be about Freedom and democracy. Really its about the rich and connected having grand parties while the regular stiffs have to put up with overzealous security and politicians.

Pro-Bush pizza shop given some heat to go

A 24-foot-long ''Go Bush" banner hanging on a pizza shop across from the FleetCenter has drawn plenty of attention amid preparations for the Democratic National Convention this week. But yesterday, a city inspector stopped by and slapped Halftime Pizza with a citation for hanging an unlicensed banner.

Mark F. Pasquale, a North End native who owns the shop, said he suspects the message was connected to the city's action
The state Republican Party is sympathetic to Pasquale, who thought he would make money slinging slices during the convention, but decided to close when he found out the delegates would be fed at private parties

Is there no limit to how badly the current administration will abuse the Patriot Act to stifle free speech?
:p

Most large cities have sign and banner laws. The city was correct in citing him and getting him to remove it. I don't recall reading if his was given a warning first and allowed to remove it. As a business owner, I'm sure he's well aware of the bylaw.

Maybe so, but wouldn't a sign w/ a political message be exempt from local ordinances for signage?

At any rate, here in Chicago if a pizza place dared put a small sign in the window against the local Daley-phile alderman he'd get much worse than a ticket for an unlicensed banner. You'd get shut down by the army of health and building code inspectors that would descend on it.

Yep, life in the Democratic paradise of Chicago!

You're right about political signs during a race. I had forgotten that circumstance.

Chicago still sounds like a tumblin' town....
