Magnets take quite a kicking in these parts.
So to balance the record- About three years back, I was in a "one pound shop". (Don't know if the U.S. has an equivalent. Every item costs one pound. It's mostly over produced junk, but there are occasional gems).
I found a magnet -about the size of an earphone magnet- on a nice extending telescopic handle. Folded, it's the size of a pen, with a penlike pocket clip. Extended, it's almost two feet long.
Mine has the name "Marksman" on it.
This little beauty will lift about 18 ounces. Excellent for getting recessed screws out or picking up small bits of metal from inaccessible holes. Keeps kids amused for hours.
I gave one to an elderly lady who has MS and uses a walking frame. She attached paper clips to small non magnetic objects so she can lift them if they fall. I saw her pick up a cellphone with it once- which could be a lifesaver. She just sticks the magnet to her walking frame, which is part steel, part aluminium.
So- here's a real magnet doing a real job, dirt cheap and no woowoo pseudoscience. Get one now. Hell, buy two. Use the other to stir your magnetic pentawater!
