Interesting thought. What with a number of "progressive" issues on various initiatives around the country, I wonder if, by calling for a vote on them, conservatives who would not otherwise vote came out.

I am thinking of the gay marriage stuff, and the parential notification thing in Fla.

Not to mention The Guardian's ill-considered solicitation of votes in Ohio.

Let's not forget to thank the Eurotrash, while we're at it.

Isn't that how it's been for the last decade or so? Stir up a furor over social issues to conceal all the economic, domestic, and foreign policy issues. Social issues are invariably "hot button" and get a lot of attention, while all that boring stuff gets ignored.

Americans would rather get all excited over gay marriage and the war on drugs than they would bother with court-stripping and deficit. Better buzz words, sound bites, and film footage on the news. (Which gets more ratings: Greenspan saying something cautious about the economy, or film coverage of a gay pride parade with drag queens demanding the president walk a mile in their high heeled shoes?)

Of course, it's all that boring stuff that's going to kill us.

Being your own worst enemy is usually a bad proposition. I've said 55-45 but will take 52-48; thanks, ya'all. :)

Blame Ashton Kutcher. His Kerry endorcment must have driven away millions.

Interesting theory.

I know that calling for gay marriage stuff was a BAD call for gays in this election. It only hindered their odds.

Of course, a lot of those State initiatives were drafted by right-wing religious groups.

Oh, and no pot in Alaska! :(
They worded it WAY too broad was the problem.
