I just heard of this case about a week ago.

Here is a decent story about the case from a few years back.

It's a murder case that involves race so it's a bit hot button. Basically, interracial couple breaks up. White female's son is then murdered. Black boy friend is then suspected, charged and as of this week found not guilty.

I personally think he did it, but the evidence to convict is just not there. The clincher for me is the school video where it shows the boy just leaving school and immediately Hillary follows behind him... which could totally be coincidental as it is the exit for the school, but it looks awful suspicious. I'd like to see more from that surveillance. If he happened to just get in his car and leave, then it might look much less suspicious. But if he is shown to be in his car for more then a minute (maybe two) then sees the kid go by, then leaves, then that looks really suspicious. But still not rising to evidence to convict, IMO.

This was on Dateline just recently. Another case where he was suspected and tried simply because it seemed he was the likely suspect. There was never any real evidence that led police to him other than Garrett's mother thinks he did it.

The video from the school would be more significant if Hillary wasn't connected to the school in any way, but he was, so it would not be unusual for him to be there. Prosecutors are also trying to make a lot out of the fact that he turned left instead of right, but if you look at the map of where he said he was going you could have turned left or right there and it wouldn't make much difference as to how you got there.

Seems like they were trying to find evidence against him when they didn't really have any. Clearly the jury saw through that.

Yeah, I agree with you that this should have never been brought to trial. I just want to know how long he was waiting in his car for one he left. If he got in his car and left, as most people do, then it looks much less suspicious. But if he is sitting in his car for 5 or 6 minutes and then drives away at the exact moment the kid rides by, then that looks much more suspicious.

Also, it wasn't a Jury that saw through it, it was a judge.

Thanks for pointing that out, charges dismissed and never got to trial.

From statements the prosecutors made though it seems they are not giving up and would likely try again if they could only find more evidence.

Wait. I think it did go to trial, but the defense opted for a trail by Judge, just days before the trail began. I think he was just found by the judge, not guilty. I think that's how I saw it on Nightline.
