Assuming the election takes place and assuming it can be determined within a reasonable timeframe who will be the next President of the USA what would Members like to see happen to this section?

For example:

Should it be left as is for post-election discussions?
Or should it be locked and all post-election discussion takes place in the main section?
Or should all the threads be moved into the main section and this place ceases to exist?

Or something else entirely?

(Edited for an embarrassing ' .)

Well, we'll be occupied with the post-election legal challenges and other recriminations for a while. Then we can change the title of the forum to 2008... and get busy.

I favor leaving it open for post-election discussions. I expect that the forum will eventually run out of steam, and then it can be dealt with at that time.

I hope hgc is wrong about post-election legal challenges, but I have to agree that such challenges look more likely every day.

Although I hope it doesn't happen, the election might not be over Nov 2. Those "legions of lawyers" need to earn their "pro bono".

Once a president is duly elected (or appointed by the supreme court), the forum should come down and we'll post in "Politics, Curr Events etc."

Or, Bush could win Florida and Ohio, while Kerry wins Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oregon, New Mexico, New Hampshire and I forgot what else. The point is that there is a slightly believable scenario that gives us a 269-269 tie, meaning that the House of Representatives would select Bush the winner. Now that would be a real kick in the groin.. and the lasting legacy of Newt Gingrich.

It's a forum about the 2004 election, and therefore has a finite life. But it should still live on in infamy, so either move it to Flame Wars, or move the threads back to the main Poli forum and let them die quiet deaths.

You never know when someone will want to cite proof that they said such-and-such back in August .

It could remain as US Elections... sure, it would die off for a while, but then it'll be back...

Oh, believe you me, I've been around this forum to know, if Dubya is reelected, this particular forum will be pretty busy for sometime.

I say keep it open till the end of the year then move it to Politics and let the threads die out.
