This came in very hand today at the public library. A patron came in with a floppy full of OpenOffice documents (file extension .sdw). We have MS Word on our public computers, but no converter installed. Using this trick I was able to copy the text, paste into Word, then do "Save as" a .doc or .rtf. This did not recover any formatting from the original document, but it did get all of the text, which she was able to edit and reformat on our computers using Word.
