Hey all,

After watching a documentry from the BBC I am just baffeld by "Rev." Fred Phelps hipocracy, hatred, and down right stupidity. After looking into a man who's ast is nuttier than a fruit cake, I found seven things I just find odd:

1) He says that anyone in this "cursed nation", that being the US, will give of to sodomites. Fred Phelps has run for Governor of Kansas for the Democratic Ticket and many other offices

2) Fred Phelp's church, if you want to call it that, believes that all soldiers fight against God. Fred Phelps almost went to West Point Academy

3) He is shown to have a racist leaning but was a lawyer FOR the civil rights movement.

There are too many other weird things about this loon. People like Billy Graham, who do some good, are conciderd satan's followers by this guy. My question to you all is what are your thoughts on Fred Phelps and his cult the Westboro Baptist Church

From my perspective: Nearly indistinguishable from the cult of Al Gore.
 
I presume the OP saw the Louis Theroux documentary. Here's the first part of it on Youtube (and you can see the rest of it there too).

 
There are hundreds of millions of Christians in the U.S., and they're all free to start their own churches and believe whatever they want. Logically, someone has to be at the extreme end of the craziness bell curve. Westboro Baptist is a small church that gets disproportionate attention because they're so bizarre and offensive.
 
Fred's son Nate has posted here on a couple of occasions. It is interesting to read about the Westboro Church from the inside.

For the record, Nate left the church some time ago and certainly does not condone anything to do with it.
 
Fred Phelps is just an attention whore. Perhaps, many years ago, he once believed in what he was doing but these days it's all about the cameras.

The cult of Al Gore refers to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. as the "Holocaust Memorial Sodomite Museum"?

The cult of Al Gore says things like "Jews stirred up the Romans to butcher 6 million Christians in the catacombs in the 1st century. The First Holocaust was a Jewish Holocaust against Christians. The latest Holocaust is by Topeka Jews against WBC ..."?

Everyone in the cult of Al Gore is related to him?

that Louis Theroux (love him, by the way) documentary was very sad. Almost everyone in this cult is just from the same family, they were just brainwashed from the cradle. You can see his children now doing it to their own children, and it's just too bad. Of course it is POSSIBLE to break out of that sort of insular brainwashing, as some members of the family have seen it for what it is and left, but it's just so difficult when that's what you've been taught from birth.

Beyond that though, the attention and hate seems to be their source of income. As lawyers, they make money through the Civil Rights Attorney's Fees Award Act of 1976 when their protests are "unlawfully disrupted" They make sure their protests will be disrupted by making their protests as offensive and vile as they can, while staying within the bounds of the law.

They either sue or are sued and collect attorney fees, and being lawyers, that's money in their pockets.

So, to say it's about the attention is being charitable. It is at least partly about the money as well.

My thoughts are that i am kind of sad we do not have the crazed-tom-clancy-loving-gun-collecting-paraniod loser with nothing to lose class on our side.

I was not aware of that. (And now, nauseated, will miss that blissful ignorance.) There really is no depth to which this bastard will not sink. It almost makes me wish I believed in true evil so there was some explaination.

Yeah, I've met the guy. He's not just confused... he really is a dispicable, hateful person even if you don't talk about gay people.
