Hello,

This happens every once and awhile. I go to open Firefox and asks which "profile" I want to use, and one is "default" and the other is "Default blah blah blah" -- I forget what the "blah blah blah" part, obviously. Anyway, I want the second one, since it's already highlighted, but when I select and hit "OK", it refuses. So I choose the other one. The other one, in this case, it turns out, has all my bookmarks from ~a year ago. Hot damn, that would have been helpful when I was working on a big paper last year and then the browser flipped out on me. Now, again, I've been working on a big paper. No, a big, big, big paper, and all my links and notes and sites are gone.

Question: how do I change "profiles"?

Here's a link to managing profiles, though it might not help much given what you've said.

If you try to open Firefox and it asks for a profile, it means Firefox is already running in the background, (but there's no indication of that at the bottom of the screen). Just open the task manager and end the firefox process, then restart the Firefox program. Doing that will clear the problem and Firefox should open normally.

RayG,

After two years with no Firefox problems, this happened to me today. Thank you for posting the solution two days before the problem happened. I'll vouch for you, so go ahead and have Randi cut the check.;)

I can corroborate RayG's solution. I've had that happen a few times, and always discovered that Firefox was actually still running in the background. It thinks you're trying to open another instance and thus brings up the profile manager.
