I just recently watched Fire in the Sky again and was interested in the "true story" behind this supposed encounter.

Not surprisingly, the movie has composited some characters, and left out some details here and there.

Surprisingly, the basics behind the initial encounter and the following investigation are fairly accurate to eyewitness testimony and such...up to the point of Travis' encounter on the ship, which is completely different from the story Walton tells.

One of the reasons might have been that the moviemakers wanted the encounter inside the ship to be creepy and cool, and appeal to today's audience...

...instead of what Walton really describes, which is cheese city. Straight out of a bad episode of the original Star Trek.

Well, I was hoping to start a discussion of believers and non-believers alike...so I'll provide a few links.

Walton's own site, which contains his account:

A more balanced telling of the entire story:

An more skeptical account of the media circus behind the story, as related by a writer for the Enquirer who supposedly witnessed the events:

Add to that he struck up a deal with the National Enquirer shortly after he reappeared, who had been offering a standing award of $100,000 to anyone with solid proof of UFOs. They sequestered him in a hotel before the police even got to him.

They then administered a lie detector test to Walton, which he failed...tried to cover it up...and then gave him another one with an inexperienced tester which he kinda passed.

Yeah, this one stinks.

They should have some nice footprint casts from the aliens, dermal ridges included. Or blurry footage of a fuzzy grey female nicknamed Allie.

These would be undeniable pieces of evidence.

There is a female in the story, but she looks like this:

Aaaaaaah! Aliens!

slightly off topic, but anyone got any background on the two police officers who were supposedly abducted one night(!) whilst sat in their patrol car. There was a book about it,had an orange cover(not that it's relevant)was it in San Fransisco? I seem to remember a bridge? Or did they witness an abduction?
Info? ;)

There was a story about 2 policemen who supposedly witnessed an abduction. If I recall correctly the story involved no less than Kofi Annan as well.

It would certainly make a difference for these advanced civilisations to pick on 2 or 3 cops rather than weird yokels. Perhaps they're branching out?

Hmm. So today that link quit working...

Here's a couple more:

UFO Casebook

UFO Net

From the UFOnet link:
She also said that she was forced to remove her shoes so they could examine her feet to determine whether she was an ET alien (they later claimed that aliens lack toes).
Man! If there's one thing I can't stand it's those aliens who lack toes!

Why is it that none of these abductees never think to pocket some kind of small souvenir while on board (Hell, Travis Walton seemed to be able to lurk around totally alone for quite some time)? A bona fide alien artifact could answer a lot of questions one would think.

Yes I can just imagine the aliens finding some time later that their hairbrush ahd been nicked"Thieving human bast***s"[Translated]
:D

Which was a strange possession for an alien to have in the first place since they have no hair but it was a gift so they kept it for sentimental reasons. "Grrp blik kik blogm", they said which translates as "We'll never part with it".
:D

I just can't tell you how much I hate those aliens who lack toes...

Why do I hate them so much I ask myself (since nobody else will). I dunno. I guess I'm just lack-toes intolerant.

That was really bad, but I'm still laughing.
