How the Earth was Made - great series. I'm recording them on DVR. Right now I'm watching one on the Birth of the Earth. I was always interested in astronomy but hadn't kept up with it. I had heard that the current theory was that the Moon was formed from a collision, but this program explained the change in theories and the evidence for the newer theory. (I was still under the old impression that everything was swirling around and that the Moon developed at the same time as the Earth.)

I recommend this series. Great animation, good science.

OK, this show is just blowing my mind. So much new evidence and theories that I wasn't aware of. Water and animo acids introduced to the earth by meteorites! They've found meteorites containing water and some containing amino acids. How these things could form in space I don't quite understand. I think I need to do some studying. I was still thinking that amino acids arose from the "primordial soup."

The series has been around for a while. They've got some good ones on plate tectonics and glaciation. Makes you wonder if there are two warring factions over at the History Channel--the woo-woos vs. the rational ones.

Drives me nuts. One day they'll have a nice presentation like this, and the next one on the coming apocalypse as predicted by Nostradamus...

Or the marketing dept vs the historians/scientists...

Woo-woo pays the bills so they can afford to air real science...
