Lately, I have been trying to learn the Faro shuffle, but I am having a hard time of it. I can get it some of the time, but have yet to do it perfectly, and often the cards fly everywhere.

Does anyone have any tips/hints on this?

I believe what my friend Mike Close told me was to "relax your wrists". I think he said it's all in the wrists.
And practice.

Marlo has a book on it, which I hear is good. What brand of cards are you using? Are they broken in or new?

Also, practice(yeah, I know...).

Yes, it's all in the wirsts, just like so many other things.

I have been using a fresh bicycle deck which is quickly getting mangled, and I have been getting instructions from Jean Hugard's books.

While I was online last night I was practicing, so if I keep this up, who knows?

Hugard's explanation is a bit frustrating, since he says something like "...and you'll see the cards weave perfectly every time..." and they don't.
I assume you're trying the tabled Faro shuffle, which I still haven't mastered. Actually I haven't practiced it much.
I found the in-the-hands faro to be easier for me. Hard as hell for me to explain, but anyway.
Are there any particular tricks you want to do that require this shuffle?
