1) What is defined as signposts for "Far Left" direction for the United States?

2) What is defined as signposts for "Far Right" direction for the United States?

I am interested in JREF's take on our political landscape. I hear day n day out about the dangers of far left on the main stream news on every channel from the talking heads of the day. But I rarely hear a peep on "Far Right" direction of the country. If you want to take a crack on why no one dares utters word about a "Far right" direction in this country live on our mainstream national airwaves go ahead. Don't you find it curious though that it's always 9 times out of 10 "Far Left" concern from the corporate news establishment. Is the media scared to utter the words "Far Right"

What would be the dangers of Far Left? Windmill farms installed immediately on your property, Flip Flops,Ponchos,Chomsky reality show & zeitgeist screening parties? :D

Slathering gigatons of regulation and taxation, even well-meaning, on a free economy eventually becomes indistinguishable from simple dictatorship where all economic activity must be pre-approved, as far as economic dynamism is concerned.

So why use a photo of north korea from around the year 2000 when north korea was far more capitalist than it had been in proceeding decades?

In all seriousness north korea developed a suprisingly widespread if highly illegal capitalist economy around that time.

You are also going to have an interesting time explaining why India (home of the Paper Raj) is a democracy.

I've always wondered.. Why is North Korea always hailed by the extreme right as being a leftist Utopia?

Is it because it's just like Video Games?

North Koreans are hardcore leftists, what with their nationalism, militarism, and Hollywood movies.

Well in fairness back in kim il-sung's days north korea did follow a nominaly fairly left wing economic model. Sure there were perks as you got higher in the system (larger housing for example) but for the most part everyone was equaly poor (although for a fair amount of time they were actualy better off than south koreans). Still they could keep the lights on (one per person say) and people didn't actualy starve for the most part. Then things fell apart in the 90s.

This is something that I am still trying to figure out. What is considered "Far Left" is the US would be centrist or moderate right in the rest of the industrialized world. "Far Right" is off the scale elsewhere. Likewise, what would be a mainstream left wing party in Canada or Europe would be off the scale by US standards.

As for the dangers of the left... well, there's the lack of debt, the lack of people dying because they can't afford healthcare, standards for corporations not to harm people.

For dangers of the right, there's Somalia...

Far Left = Chavez, Castro, Kim Jung-Il

The US "far left" at present includes a strong element of civil libertarianism and doesn't endorse communism.

The far right does appear to advocate anarchy or near anarchy.

could you please list a name of a person you believe is on the Far Left in the U.S. and the Far Right?

thanks.

Far left, Jane Hamsher.
Far right, Ron Paul.

Interesting...

I would choose Van Jones for Far Left

I'd probably agree with you about Ron Paul as being Far Right, though I don't think he's an anarchist but more of an isolationist and someone I disagree with on many issues.

The actual far left is not capable of cooperating to the extent of forming a goverment.

Depending on which far left vision you end up with problems range from a lack of freedom (maoism say) to a lack of an ability to carry out large projects (localism). More rapaidly you hit issues with competing in a global economy.

I'd call Van Jones "fringe left". Like the "total anarchy capitalists" are "fringe right". And the shameless theocrats are "fringe rightists."

What I think of by "far left" and "far right" are the "only slightly outside of the mainstream versions of current repub and dem leadership" folks.

I think the reason you don´t hear the main stream news warn about the Far Right is that they ARE the far right.

And of course, should any on the Far Right do something that even the follow Far Right has no choice but to consider wrong, they aren´t Far Right at all... as seen with the moronic claims that Hitler was actually Far Left.
