Fantastic pictures of Obama

I enjoyed the photos for three reasons.

They are exemplary examples of technical and artistic excellence.
They reveal many sides of President Obama, often in a touching or poigent way.
They will annoy the hell out of the bigots who didn't want a black man ruling this country.

Fantastic selection of photos. My favorite is where he's fist-bumping the janitor.

I don't agree necessarily with everything he has said and done, but he is the only president that I think would be chill enough to have a beer with.

Sometimes Obama seems like the only teenager in a room full of stuffy old farts. Other times he seems like the only grownup in a room full of toddlers.

We don't like royalty in the US, except we kinda do.

Show me a photo of the Queen of United Kingdom in any two of the poses in that series of photos, and I will acknowledge the validity of your comparison. One of the central themes in the photos is that President Obama is approachable and playful. Again, not an accurate description of most royalty.

Also, even assuming Americans do like royalty, their monarchy is much more likely to consist of entertainers than presidents or politicians.

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton

(Obama's somewhere else right now for the purposes of making that punchier)

I'm in the US, so celebrity + political power is enough to make the analogy with royalty work for me. Not all politicians are celebrities and not all celebrities have political "heft." And it isn't even celebrity alone they need. I never thought of GW as royalty. There's another element needed - maybe benevolence? I don't know, a transcendent "special-ness"?

Picture 23 proves he's actually a Muslim!!! Picture 25 is extra-marital affair!! 33 shows he's gay!! 36 shows he has no friends!! 42 shows he punches children!! (/conservatism)

Also a US resident. While there might be many people labeled royalty, I still don't see how it could be used to describe President Obama.

Hillary as royalty. Ugh! She will not wear that mantle well.

> All of these candid, heartfelt moments.
> An Official White House Photographer is there taking pictures.

It's kind of depressing. Like watching a porno and remembering that there's a cameraman in the room with the lovemaking couple. And then remembering that the couple isn't making love at all. They're putting on an act for the cameraman.

The man you think you'd like to have a beer with is the man recorded in those photographs. He's just an act being performed for your consumption.

Celebrities get so accustomed to having photographers around them that they actually do relax and let down their guard quite often. Particularly when the photog is allowed free rein and can take candid shots from positions and angle that the subject doesn't realize are being used. The guy's had from one to two hundred photographers around him every day for the last, roughly, three thousand days. That's fifty-five photos of the hundreds of thousands taken, probably ten thousand by his "official" photographer. I think it's quite probable that many of them are genuine, with the understanding that "genuine" is going to have different meanings for people who live their life in the limelight.

ITV recently did an hour with the official Royal Family photographer. He said these people have a retinue of people around them all the time and that what seems intrusive to us is just not the same to them.

Naw, #9 is the one that shows he's gay. Just look at the lustful gaze he is giving Dubya! ;)
