Story #1: Exxon may soon pass GE as world's biggest company - May 7 2004
Exxon Mobil Corp , the world's largest listed oil company, may soon surpass General Electric Co to become the world's biggest company, period, if energy prices continue to rally.

Story#2: Exxon's Valdez Fines Still Unpaid - March 24, 2004
Ten years ago, a jury ordered Exxon to pay what now amounts to $6.5 billion for damage to the fishing industry. While many fishermen have been forced into bankruptcy in the years since, the world's most profitable company still hasn't paid a penny, as the case remains tied up in appeals.

10 years later an not a dime. Simply another case of the two-tiered legal system that exsists in the US. One for the rich, one for the poor....sad.

So you're saying saying ExxonMobil should pay $6.5 billion even though they may not be liable? That doesn't make sense.

Aw, c'mon. While it may be shown on appeal that Exxon is not liable under some specific point of law, the simple fact is Exxon was not only to blame for the discharge of oil, they also acted poorly in the aftermath. They took forever to organise the necessary containment and recovery equipment which made the largest ever oil spill even more damaging than it otherwise would have been.
