I know, I know - not another thread about Ben Stein's "Expelled"...

But you should read on. The website du jour for all the dirt and facts on "Expelled" has a new look and contains more info than before.

Expelled Exposed
Flunked, Not Expelled: What Ben Stein isn't telling you about Intelligent Design

Please pass the link along to all you know - especially teachers! The film comes out this Friday, so don't wait.

Thanks, It was a good summary of the silliness in that awful piece of junk.

The quotes they had from that Wedge document are chilling.
I think ID theorists should be expelled, flunked, criticized and laughed at. Everyone else has to play by the rules of the scientific method, we shouldn't give them a break just cause they believe they're right oh so strongly. In the same way that the bad kid gets coal in his stocking no matter how many wish lists he writes to Santa.

I really liked the section about scientists who have recently challenged the status quo and prevailed. Money quote:

There is no reason why intelligent design proponents cannot follow in the footsteps of these distinguished scientists who overcame sometimes considerable opposition, sometimes for a very long time, before their scientific views prevailed. Unlike ID advocates, these researchers didn’t skip past the research phase to try to influence the public before they had scientific support. None of them formed groups to lobby school boards to teach their views in the public schools; they just buckled down and did the work. None of them drafted model legislation or penned op-eds in newspapers and magazines decrying the supposed persecution they suffered at the hands of The Establishment; they just buckled down and did the work. None of them hired former Nixon speechwriters or game-show hosts to compare their opponents to Hitler; they just buckled down and did the work.

The difference between what scientists do and what intelligent design proponents do is that when scientists question aspects of evolution they do it with science, while intelligent design proponents do it with dishonest movies, tired slogans, and slick marketing.

Expelled Exposed is an excellent site. No frills, no fancies, just the facts, ma'am, neatly marshalled.

I particularly like

The Claim

Michael Egnor says in Expelled that he expected criticism, but was shocked by the “viciousness” and “baseness” of the response.

The Facts

Michael Egnor had apparently never been on the Internet before.

You have to admire the efficiency of that last sentence.

They're a bunch of whiners, aren't they? "Oo, look, I'm being oppressed! That means I'm important and what I say must be profoundly troubling to the Darwinists!". Skidmarks on the underpants of life, I calls 'em.

They're a bunch of whiners, aren't they? "Oo, look, I'm being oppressed!"

This fits particularily well if you imagine this as the Monty Python scene when he says "Help, help, I'm being oppressed!" while he is packing mounds of filth. :D

"Oh look, there's some lovely filth over here."

Thanks, It was a good summary of the silliness in that awful piece of junk.

And not just awful. It's deeply offensive.

I think ID theorists should be expelled, flunked, criticized and laughed at.

I recall a whole load of righteous whining when a School of Biology, as part of its selection process, asked whether a prospective student accepted evolution and was quite open about rejecting those that didn't. There were more applicants than places, so places were assigned to those judged best able to benefit from the course. Rejection of evolution scored high negative points, and very reasonably so.

Very much in mind :). "Come and see the violence inherent in the system!". I moved in leftie circles in my younger days (I went amongst them, I wasn't of them, m'kay?) and I know exactly where this scene is coming from. It still makes me giggle to think of it :).

The section ravdin quotes nicely puts the boot into the whining. And it doesn't just feature in this case; it features in "The War on Christmas" and all sorts of sad-act baloney. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing people whining on about how they can't get a hearing. Enough, already. Intimidation clearly isn't working, so it's time we started using the black helicopters to take these people out. I know our alien friends are a bit queasy about that (public opinion back home, you know how it is) but we've gotta face facts here : on Earth, these things always get wet.

IMPORTANT! Before you hyperlink, read this.

Hey folks, by all means link to the Expelled Exposed site. But do not use "Expelled Exposed" as your anchor text! (The anchor text is the visible text in a link).

We need to get it moved higher in the Google rankings for when people search for the the movie. That means searches that have "expelled" in them but not "exposed".

To best do that, you need to link to it like this:

Expelled

This will boost it for searches for the "expelled", which is how most people are going to search for info about the movie.

In recent weeks it has been on pages 6 through 12 of Google results for this search. As of this week it is on the bottom of page 2 of the same search. We need to get it boosted even more so it appears on the first page. To do this best, we need precisely targeted links.

That is all. We now return you to the regularly scheduled thread.

I saw a TV commercial for the movie already. It highlighted a scene with a very Jack Chickesque Biology professor being flummoxed when a student challenges him on the issue of the origin of life. That's what it comes down to?

Just visited again. The website has changed back to its older incarnation?

Strange.

It looks like they are getting hammered with traffic. They probably reverted to the previous design (which has fewer graphics and the like) as a defensive maneuver so the site doesn't go down completely.

What krelnik said.

Yes! I just got it as #10 on page 1. Good work, everyone, keep it up, and soon it will be right next to the movie at the top.

Can we continue making links like this Expelled on this thread or should we branch out to other subforums and other forums?

I'm reminded of 2002 when Phil Plait was doing to Nancy Lieder what RSLancaster has basically done to the frog voiced bitch and during TAM 1 he showed a Google screencap where entering "Planet X" had his badastrony.com page as the number one hit. :D

The best thing is to do it on as many different domains as possible. So post on your blog, on other forums, wherever someone lets you post a link and control the anchor text.

Hey, the producers of the film have noticed that we are doing this, and are whining about it. They released a press release this morning, which is mainly about the lawsuit with animation company XVIVO, but read on...

Premise Media has also learned of grass root efforts that are underway to try to influence the ranking of internet searches regarding EXPELLED by those wanting to learn about the film. Their stated goal is an attempt to counter-site those searchers to other websites that criticize the themes in the movie.

"We are not surprised that opponents of our film are attempting to interfere with its important message. As the movie documents, similar tactics are being used across the country against many of the researchers, scientists, and professors who want to engage in free debate within science but have inadequate resources to challenge the Establishment. However, we do have the platform to confront the 'thought police,' and we will work tirelessly to open the doors of free speech and inquiry," said Executive Producer and Premise Chairman Logan Craft.

What a bunch of children. Next they'll be complaining to their moms.

What really made me sick was all the pro-ID pro-Expelled threads on the Amazon website under their Science forum. Silly me for looking at science books there.
