Expedition Will Seek to Find Noah's Ark

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - An expedition is being planned for this summer to the upper reaches of Turkey's Mount Ararat where organizers hope to prove an object nestled amid the snow and ice is Noah's Ark.

A joint U.S.-Turkish team of 10 explorers plans to make the arduous trek up Turkey's tallest mountain, at 17,820 feet, from July 15 to August 15, subject to the approval of the Turkish government, said Daniel P. McGivern, president of Shamrock_The Trinity Corporation of Honolulu, Hawaii.

The goal: to enter what they believe to be a mammoth structure some 45 feet high, 75 feet wide and up to 450 feet long that was exposed in part by last summer's heat wave in Europe.

"We are not excavating it. We are not taking any artifacts. We're going to photograph it and, God willing, you're all going to see it," McGivern said.

Good luck.

I'd like to find some believers willing to make a large cash bet with me on the the outcome of this mission.

"We are not excavating it. We are not taking any artifacts. We're going to photograph it and, God willing, you're all going to see it," McGivern said.
In other words: They are not going to present any verifiable evidence. They have explicitly PLANNED not to bring evidence back. They are just going to take some photos... with a digital camara, no doubt.

So, we're going to take their words for this, I expect ?

Why am I not surprised?

McGivern is a Catholic lay preacher in Hawai'i, and is also opposed to dancing in churches as per the Pope's ruling (traditional hula dancing in praise, that is). Darned if I can find the reference just now...

This just gets sillier.

Any early guesses on what their excuses will be when they inevitably fail to find "Noah's Ark"?

How stupid are people?

Ummm, exactly how much water would have to have covered the world for an ark to be deposited at that altitude? How could any wooden structure survive not being torn apart by the different rates of the flow of glacial ice it was buried in? How could any wooden structure hold up against the climactic changes and likely violent sea conditions that would exist from a world-wide flood?

He already gave that answer is his comment that you quoted:
""We're going to photograph it and, God willing, you're all going to see it," McGivern said." So, if they don't find it, it was God's will. Now ain't that convenient?

Skeptical Inquirer had an article on this sometime in the mid 80s I think. I don't have the issue handy, but I'll try to look it up later for details.
