Turkish daily Hurriyet is reporting that an evolution education site has been included on a blocking list for users selecting the children's setting on the new government Internet filter. The editor-in -chief of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey argues that this must not be because of the evolution subject but rather that it must have deemed unsuitable for other reasons.

The site in question is a translation of a Berkeley's "Understanding Evolution" website.

Considering Turkish Muslim creationist Adnan "Harun Yahya" Oktar's previous track record of sometimes-successful attempts to get evolution and other websites blocked, I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn he's behind this, as well.

I don't think Oktar has much sway, despite the books being the standard go to for the few creationists interested in the meager debate that goes on here. There does seem to be a bit of distrust in him due to his allowing speculation about him being the MahdiWP, a prophesied redeemer.

maybe there are pictures of naked hominids on the site.

I have had a look around the site and have seen no such thing myself. This is just a translation of the Berkeley evolution site that some of you have seen before.
