Pew Research polled people about their views of other countries.

Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Netherlands all have a more favorable rating for China than the US. The only European country that prefers the US is Poland. I wonder why that is?

Here are the ratings:
Britain - 65 like China, 55 like US
France - 58 like China, 43 like US
Germany - 46 like China, 41 like US
Spain - 57 like China, 41 like US
Netherlands - 56 like China, 45 like US
Poland - 36 like China, 56 like US

I guess this is why so many Europeans emigrate to China while virtually none go to the US.

And the US has about equal ratings for France and China. So?

Really?

From 2000-2004, 17083 Danes emigrated to the US, while 7352 emigrated to China.

Can I see the numbers you have from other European countries?

I suspect he said that with cheeked tongue.

The US embassy here in australia offers free airfare to the US and complimentary broadway tickets but everyone prefers to go to china and pick rice on holiday weekends.

This must have stung !

Japan, France and Germany are all more highly regarded than the United States among the countries of Europe; even the British and Canadians have a more favorable view of these three nations than they do of America.

I don't see how this poll indicates that Europeans prefer tyrants. It indicates that they prefer little asian tyrants to white, wannabe cowboy tyrants.

Seriously? 7,300 Danes actually emigrated to China and started the citizenship process or got permanent residency papers or whatever? I'm extremely surprised by this. Were they Danish citizens of Chinese descent, or ethnic Danes, or what? I'd be extremely curious to know more.

Well it just proves that the Poles are the most politically astute and the rest of European are obtuse. Americans are in the middle.

No, it really doesn't, it proves that people's opinion of countries have little to do with whether they're democratic and that Poles like Americans better than most Europeans.

ETA: Actually it doens't even prove that, but at least that's a reasonable interpretation of the data.

No, the Poles are just naive.

Danish citizens, period. We don't register people's ethnicity. That's discriminating.

I suspect that's the number of people who move to China, whether or not they plan to stay forever or become citizens. I suspect most of them are only staying a few years to work for Danish companies.

It's not the US, it's the POTUS.

yes, i think it has less to do with a love of fascism then a dislike for a certain president and a certain war.

The Poles know first hand what it is like to live under a tyrant. They remember who was the leader in their fight for freedom. The other Europeans did not learn this from their grandparents.

In other words, the Poles understand the big issues are not overwhelmed by, relatively, petty disputes.

So, other European countries - Denmark, to pick one - do not know what freedom is?

Well, SOMEONE had to say it...

The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
There's nine hundred million of them in the world today.
You'd better learn to like them; that's what I say.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They come from a long way overseas,
But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese food.
The waiters never are rude.
Think of the many things they've done to impress.
There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching, and Chess.

So I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin, and yang-ese.

I like Chinese thought,
The wisdom that Confucious taught.
If Darwin is anything to shout about,
The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt.

So, I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please.

All together.

[verse in Chinese]
Wo ai zhongguo ren. (I like Chinese.)
Wo ai zhongguo ren. (I like Chinese.)
Wo ai zhongguo ren. (I like Chinese.)
Ni hao ma; ni hao ma; ni hao ma; zaijien! (How are you; how are you; how are you; goodbye!)

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
Their food is guaranteed to please,
A fourteen, a seven, a nine, and lychees.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin, and yang-ese.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees...
