With all the supernatural and paranormal stuff trafficking through the room, I'm surprised that I haven't seen any Egyptology woo for a long time.
There is apparently some new work about to be done in an area of research in the Pyramid of Cheops that I've found fascinating for years ... two puzzling shafts that go from the Queen's chamber diagonally upward more than 200 feet through the pyramid, then end abruptly. These 8" shafts required considerable design and effort to incorporate them into the building of the pyramid, and while they've been dubbed "air shafts" or "spirit conduits" no one really has the faintest idea what they were for. They were first discovered in 1872 by British explorers, probed with long poles, but with no conclusive results.
In 1992, a German engineer named Rudolph Gatenbrink sent a small crawling robot named Upuaut into the shafts, and continued work through 2003 with another version until he came to a blocking stone "door" at the end of each shaft with what looked like corroded metal handles. Ultrasonics showed the blocking stone was only a few cm thick.
His story: http://www.cheops.org/startpage/startpage.htm
There is much politics in Egyptian antiquities. Gatenbrink wasn't allowed further access, but in 2003 National Geographic conducted similar robotic exploration of the shafts (with much fanfare on a live TV special) and drilled a hole in one of the "doors". There was much wooish speculation about what would be found ... treasure, crystals, scrolls, spectacular secrets. In fact, they found a small section of shaft continuing upward blocked by another "door".

This page not only details the previous NG campaign, but also talks about yet another surveying campaign with a new robot.

But one can't just be wowed with the facts. Dozens of web sites with all sorts of pyramidal woo just can't leave facts alone.
This guy thinks the pyramid is an ancient power plant:

Even Richard Hoagland weighs in on the matter:
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/piramides/esp_piramide_3.htm
My favorite quote? "Richard Hoagland says the builders of the pyramids created hyperdimensional machines, placed at certain latitudes on the spinning planet to excite certain acoustic resonances when the air passed through the open passages."

So, here's a new topic to inform, pique, and delight the inquisitive ... and to bring the conspira-woo-ufologists out of the woodwork.
