This is going to rock my face.

The series begins with a two-hour premiere of EGYPT on October 9 at 9PM/8C, followed by episodes of ANCIENT GREECE, GREECE: AGE OF ALEXANDER and THE AZTECS; as well as, episodes on the Maya, Chinese, Russians, Carthaginians, Persians, Byzantines, Great Britain, the Renaissance: Age of Architects and Napoleon's Empire. Each of the programs will use the society's engineering accomplishments as a prism through which to view its history and culture.

Plus it's hosted by Buckaroo Banzai. Rock star, neurosurgeon, race car driver and historian of ancient art.

I complain a lot about the History Channel, and not just for the woo, but for overall poor quality. But when they get it right, as with the Library of Alexandria series, I'll give credit. I hope I can do the same after tonight.

Thanks for the heads-up. This looks like it's gonna be good!

Not bad. I picked up a lot of new information about both first kingdom building and pharoahs. I really liked the graphical presentations showing some possible solutions to the mystery of how some of the building was accomplished. The method for erecting the obelisk was really cool.

On the downside, it was a little slapdash as it sped through history. It could have been expanded in length to make it more coherent.

Did anyone watch Greece? Unfortunately I've been missing these, though I saw Peter Weller as a talking head on another doc and thought he was pretty good, and hope to catch a marathon some weekend.
