I have a lot of Real Player downloads from You Tube that I wish to edit into video rersponses to twoofer videos, but I cannot convert them to Windows Movie Maker videos for this purpose.

Any ideas how I can convert them to a useable format that I can edit and post to YT?

Try Any Video Converter. It's free and will be able to convert the flv (flash) videos from YouTube to whatever you need. Probably just use wmv, just make sure that you use the same resolution and frame rate as the original. Windows Movie Maker will of course be able to read those fine and I'm sure YouTube accepts wmv files.

Okay, I have it downloaded now and will try it out as soon as I have time to sort and catalogue what I have now. Thanks for the tip.

And, for everybody who isn't, get on Cnet for loads of useful, mostly free downloads!!!. The site for AVC above is an "issue" of Cnet.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean, real player downloads from youtube? Youtube is flash, and uses the flash video container (FLV) - where does Real come into this?

On the Mac, you get Audio Hijack Pro from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/ and it can record the audio from ANY application and put it into a form you can edit. (You can choose the output format!)

And they also have an application called Fission that is a lossless audio editor (that means it does not re-encode, but edits the data packet stream) and I use both every day in my work.

On Windows, "Total Recorder Pro" from http://www.totalrecorder.com/productfr_trPRO.htm performs the same functions as Audio Hijack Pro, and I own that too, but haven't had much use for it in a while.

RealPlayer will allow you to download YouTube, or any flash videos, by simply pressing a button that pops up when you play the video.

All my YouTube downloads are RealPlayer. Nothing I knowingly did - just what pops up!!:)

Now I am having trouble working AVC. For some reason, the page does not all fit across my monitor, and I can't seem toi compress it. I think this monitor has about had it. I know it is at least ten years old.

I know there are buttons that I can't reach hiding in the margins of the display.

Maybe I should try that program Ben suggested.

As for the RealPlayer downloads, I needed Real Player to run one of my other programs, and it just kind of elbowed its way into everything else that does not require Quick Time or Windows Media player.
