Early detection -- enough for all breast cancers?

A while ago, I remember reading an essay (or maybe it was a forum post somewhere) stating that we've "already found" a cure for breast cancer, and that that cure was to detect them early on and remove them before they get a chance to become malignant.

Assuming regular mammograms and breast self-exams, is this enough to prevent malignant cancer in all cases?

No.

In any case, an important point to remember is that just because we already have a cure for something does not mean we might not be able to find a better cure. Even if we assume that early detection and surgery have a 100% success rate, I expect most people would be much happier if they could, for example, just take a pill and have it go away.
