I was wondering if any of you could point me to a good DVD on palming.
While I have a handful of magic books with sections on palming I have a difficult time w/ them.
Maybe it is because I am a leftie or because I am more of a sight learner than reader. Either way, if you could help pls do.:)

Specifically palming cards.

edited to add last sentence.

Palming what?

If you mean cards then I highly, highly recommend the Card College volume that deals with it. Not only will you learn to palm but you get a fantastic book too. I've not seen a better learning resource for most sleights than CC. I have a palming DVD but personally don't think it was good value. I didn't learn much that wasn't in CC except a various alternatives that were just distracting.

The best thing I learned for palming was a card to wallet effect from Simon Says which has a ton of cover for the palm in both immediate misdirection and strong trick-is-over/hasn't-started-yet misdirection. It totally takes the heat off the moment (the key to it all). If you blow the palm then you just don't go into the 2nd phase of the trick and no-one is the wiser. The lack of pressure means you never blow it.

Hi, Just Me,

I'll check a few sources and get back to you from my home computer by tonight.

A couple things to get you started.

Look for The Power of Palming by Mike Close.
A variety of palms are covered here along with their applications. Highly recommended.
It may only be on VHS, though.

Here's a link for Bob White's Palming DVD:

I haven't seen it but it has been given good reviews.

Are you interested in DVD only? There are many excellent printed works on palming, including the CC reference above.

Palming DVD

I highly recommend the 2004 DVD 'Carney on Palming' ... covers a lot of material quite well, well taught, entertaining.

But in the real world, the best (only?) way to learn palming is by trying it with a real audience (even if just one person). You'll probably continue to believe that you're certain to be caught ... until you try it. Pratice first, of course, and pay attention to all the good advice available, and then try it. Once you have, you'll find it addictive.

I'd look at R. Paul Wilson on the Royal Road to Card Magic, which covers palming and a lot more. It's a 5-DVD boxed set available from L&L Publishing (www.llpub.com) and it costs about eighty bucks. Since it's not unusual for a single L&L DVD to sell for more than thirty bucks, this looks like it might be a way to get a lot of bang for one's buck.

James Randi has spoken very highly of the book "The Royal Road to Card Magic" (which covers palming in Chapter 7), and it's about time that someone has used the book as a basis for a DVD instructional series.

Also possible is the Harry Lorayne series from L&L, which covers palming in Vol. 1. This is more pricey, however, going for $35 for one DVD, or $120 for a set of four DVD's.

I always like what Erdinase had to say about palming. He said, it's one thing to palm a card in your hand so no one can see it. It is another thing entirely to palm a card in your hand so that even the keenest observer would not even suspect, much less detect, that a card is being palmed.

I have a handful of magic books already that I have learned from but the most helpful items that I have used are DVDs, mostly becuase I was able to see what is required instead of "r2 moves to go under deck near the top."
I liken it to trying to teach someone the game of American football from a book without the person ever watching a game.
Most of the dvds i have contain little on card palming though, so I look for more.

Thank you all for the info presented here so soon.
Dinsdale Piranha, your homework is due at 11:00pm AZ time.:)

Time for you to do yours. Now, get with it or no beer for you.
Besides, I need to be asleep by then.

Ah hah! About 3 hours between your 2 upper postings. That is probably ample time for you to get home. I'll look closer next time.
But did you hand in a Hardcopy of it?? Eh?;)

Thank you everybody.

I don't have it, but will soon. Anything by Mike Close is highly recommended.

Duncan is referring to the method of the EBP that is flawed, not Close's performance of it.
Regardless, he has two or three other methods of bottom palm that you can experiment with.
