Question - I have a couple of MOV files. I would like to burn them to DVD.

Problem; Nero doesn't really support QT. Well, it does, just not these particular mov files.

And I'm too cheap to spend $30 on a program to convert them to AVI (like WinAVI) unless I really have no other choice.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this?

er, thanks...Weird, I searched videohelp and afterdawn up and down, didn't see that one. I'll let you know how it turns out.

If you are running *nix, you can download ffmpeg or if you are on a mac, ffmpegX.

Should do the job for you. Not sure what windows version there is of this, however.

find this
Xilisoft Video Converter
I downloaded freeware and it worked for me tho' there might be limitations.

*grumble* Unfortunately, any converter has to go frame by frame--considering these movies are over 1 GB, the time estimates are something like 28 hours. So I'm going to dedicate my laptop to the task this weekend. I wasn't real impressed with ffmpeg--the quality it gave me on a small MOV file seemed less than optimal (and the sound was a bit out of sync with the video).

Xilisoft and the other commercial software usually either has a limitation on size or a watermark, neither of which I'm a big fan of.

So if I can't get it done this weekend, I'm going with Plan B; find a non-MOV version of the file. :D

Only if you use a steam-driven computer. With Pinnacle Studio Plus, it takes about 7-8 hours for me to convert 1 hour of video, which is just over 5Gb AVI. I haven't converted any MOV files, though.

Why cant you tell Nero you wan't to make a ' Data ' DVD disk and just put the .mov files on the disk ? Or, am I missing something ?

I suppose he wants disks that can be played on a desktop DVD-player ?

O.K.. I didn't infer that from the OP..

Now if he said " I want to convert them to DVD ( MPG ) " , I would be with you on this..

I didn't get what Nero had to do with QT ..

Not to be rude, but I think my meaning was fairly clear. I'd like to be able to play these in standard DVD players.
