"Draw Mohammed Day" is May 20. This started as a minor joke by a small-print newspaper journalist that is taking on a life of its own.

As a Marine, an American, and an artist, Comedy Central's censorship of the South Park episodes are triply offensive to me, not to mention the violent rhetoric being produced by those who are inciting retribution.

Agree, except replace marine with army wife.

Now, see, THAT is the way to showcase the ridiculousness that is the Islamic insistence that their beloved prophet not ever be depicted in print.

I hope enough people do this in order to make them realize the wrongness (IMO) that is inherent in promoting the death of anyone who is NOT of your religion violating a tenet of said religion. If the people doing this were Muslim, heck, fire away; when they are NOT Muslim it is unfair and WRONG to hold them to standards they are most likely unaware of to begin with. I never knew it was wrong to depict Mohammed in pictures until I heard about the Dutch editorial cartoonist, and I still don't get the reasoning behind it either.

When the fatwa was initiated against Salmon Rushdie, I was disappointed that a community of concerned writers didn't arrange a counter offer for the Ayatollah's head.
Or maybe double the money.

Though I suppose that would be illegal.

Great idea. This is the response needed to terrorist threats, not accommodation.

I hope it goes viral and international.

Wonderful!

Cartoonist overwhelmed by response to "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day"

This part cracks me up:
"I make cartoons about current, cultural events. I made a cartoon of a 'poster' entitled "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" with a nonexistent group's name -- Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor -- drawn on the cartoon also. I did not intend for my cartoon to go viral. I did not intend to be the focus of any 'group'. I practice the first amendment by drawing what I wish. This particular cartoon of a 'poster' seems to have struck a gigantic nerve, something I was totally unprepared for. I am going back to the drawing table now!"

Article: Cartoonist overwhelmed by response to "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day."

Someone has set up a facebook page, but otherwise there is no place to send drawings that I know of.
I don't know how long it will stay on the opening page and I can't find a link to this specific entry other than the main page.

From the first link...

.

 How could she not know it would strike a nerve?

Steve S
Well, you have to understand she drew a small cartoon that was published in the online version of Seattle's free newspaper, "The Stranger". It may not have dawned on many people under those circumstances to think one's cartoon would be picked up by the wire services.
