Don't You DARE Fall Asleep While John Edwards is Talking!

I would like to thank "Newsbusters" for, once again, establishing that they are full of more crap than Bill O'Reilly on an all-manure diet.

Possibility #1: ABC removes someone sleeping from their camera shot because they secretly endorse Edwards and don't want him to look bad.

Possibility #2: ABC removed him because, well, having someone sleeping on camera makes ABC look bad.

I can see how #1 provides for a more glamorous conspiracy theory. But really--at a certain point these yokels are grasping at any straws to "expose" the liberal media cabal.

You forgot the Planet X possibility.

How does it make ABC look bad?

Well, at least Mr Edwards was "bright and cheerful" and fully awake at 7am.

I thought that was obvious. Look at his eyes. Not even close to human.

Er...You can't see how having someone fall asleep on their TV program makes them look bad?

I honestly have no idea how to respond to that.

I don't see how it makes ABC look bad either. It's not like he fell asleep watching ABC. He fell asleep while ABC was watching him.

I don't think there's anything nefarious. My guess is that someone from Edwards campaign watched the live footage ans said "Holy crap! Old Man Johnson is napping. Get him off-camera!" And they did.

I really don't think ABC cared one way or the other.

Is this supposed to be a news program? Or is it entertainment?

If it's a news program, the fact that the guy fell asleep is part of the story, and it's ABC News's job to simply report the story, warts and all - not sanitize it.

Remember all the complaints about how the GOP makes sure that only Bush supporters get into his public events? Similar goings-on here, except that it's with the apparent connivance of ABC News.

Either that or Edwards goons dragged the guy offstage and set about him with truncheons and brass knuckles...

How is it with the "connivance" of ABC News? ABC rolled the camera. It had some guy snoozing in the background. It was a live feed. The most reasonable assumption is that someone in the Edwards campaign saw the guy snoozing, and ran and woke him up and told him to get off camera.

It's a gaffe, not a conspiracy.

If ABC was conspiring, they would have told the Edwards campaign to get the snoozer off the stage before the cameras began rolling.

I haven't seen the video; was the guy asleep from the get-go?

We really don't know who got the guy off the camera. Cleon seems to think it was ABC, to avoid embarrassment to ABC. You seem to think it was Edwards's people, to avoid embarrassment to Edwards.

I think NoZedAvenger has it right: laser-equipped troopers from Planet X.

Possibility #5: The guy woke up (or was woken up), realized he was asleep on camera and left of his own accord.

There's a Top Ten list on this going on in the Humor forum right now.

I watched the video with the intent of seeing if there were any secondary clues as to why or how the sleeper was removed. Despite there only being a minute difference on the clock in the lower right corner (7:10 - 7:11), they did a fade cut on the video to shorten the time. Before the cut he was there, after the cut he was gone. None of the other people on screen seem to be walking over to talk to him or reacting to someone moving around off screen.

So, was he asleep or did he just have his eyes closed? What happened in the minute or so that was cut from the clip? If something nefarious were going on, I would have thought a group whose tag line is "Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias" would have wanted to show as much of it as possible rather than cutting to the chase.

My skepti-sense is tingling.

That you started.

eta: and, as of this writing, no one else has replied to. Apparently, only you and News Busters think this is a story.

It's only been up there a few minutes. The TT writers will come up with a lot of funny theories, have no doubt. I just got the easiest one out of the way.

That's weird. The time stamp reads 7:04 AM (CST) with the last edit at 7:08 AM. That's two hours ago, by my clock.

a database problem?
No, that's about right - okay, so it was more than "a few minutes." So shoot me. The previous TT list took almost four days to complete.

Oh, my bad. :o I wasn't trying to be snide. I actually thought there might be something wrong with the forum.
