I couldn't find it (but this comes close), but I heard on NPR a number of years ago that someone had done his doctoral dissertation on the prophecy revealed in "American Pie". It was available on some huge number of audiotapes, which no one was buying. I am not certain whether his thesis was ever accepted; too many years have passed since hearing the interview.
